I found the keyboard on the Desire to be really bad....

.... until I actually calibrated it  :-[

Had a play with a SE X10 Mini Pro.  Its a tiny little thing but the slide out keyboard on it is pretty good.  I couldn't recommend it as a phone right now though, its still running 1.6 and many, many people are having wifi issues with it.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Why the keyboard Kenneth..? The touch function on my HTC Desire works perfect.. :tu:

Yes Allan, with a keybord. I miss having real keys when texting and to be honest I have never grown accustom to a 100% touch interface.
Either way you're getting a great phone.. I can't imagine not having one now..  :tu:

i wish i was having the same luck im beginning to get sick of mine too buggy

The only major issues I could see with the Desire (in the few days I got to play) was the screen outside was a 'mare and corruption of the SD card.  Not much to do about the screen but not all units suffer from the latter issue.

Its probably one of the best supported Android handsets, so you should be able to find alternative software for any bits of the system that are bugging you Ryan.

revived for this uber essential:

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.digital_and_dreams.android.swiss_army_knife

in the meantime, been trying to root my Motorola Defy... I thought one method finally worked, but seems not as Titanium Backup will not work without root and it errors out... bleh... too many pages of too many methods for rooting... it shouldn't be THAT hard lol.

That looks awesome.... I could totally go for one of those and I'd even give up my nice Otterbox Defender for it.

Figure it's time to revive this thread seeing as there's some new Android users...

another "Swiss Army" tool:

useful electronics reference:
https://market.android.com/details?id=it.android.demi.elettronica

image effects from the makers of Autocad!:
https://market.android.com/details?id=pixlr.OMatic

Still my favorite flashlight app:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.devuni.flashlight

And these are all free off the official android market...

Some games I like:

NOVA 2

Hero of Sparta (you can find all the gameloft HD games free but I do not condone such action, so won't post where here)

Gun bros (this and contract killer are "freemium" games but still fun to play without paying)

Contract killer

Super stickman golf

tank hero

Wifi analyzer to tune your router setting.

If you are rooted try setcpu to under/overclock your chip and fine tune cpu governor, I underclock mine to save a bit of power, currently there's no app that really needs the latest gen cpu speed.

I just tried that, lots of fancy stuff, most of them don't work, not even the compass. I still like the old one better.

The electrodroid is very nice though.

Since Motorola only saw fit to update my phone to 2.2 so far, the built in taskmanager on 2.2 is kinda lame (actually works fine but is SLOOOOOOOOW to load), and this one is on my Tablet (2.3) and works much better imho and has a cache cleaner too:

ES Task Manager
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.estrongs.android.taskmanager

and to go with it

ES File Explorer
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop

I don't use any sort of music search apps Grant, altho it does look interesting.

Considering giving Iris a go for some laughs and yes, Iris is Siri backwards ;)
