Who collects advertising SAKs?
on: September 17, 2010, 10:45:53 AM
I know Wayne does, anyone else?  Many collectors seem to tolerate advertising on their SAKs if its an interesting model but how many of you actively collect such knives?
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Not I. I don't mind if it is an interesting knife...but I don't look for them specifically for the advertisement.
A little Leatherman information.

I don't specifically collect advertising models, but for me if there is advertising on it its often a bonus rather than a disadvantage. There was a red alox pioneer with Brütsch Rügger on ebay not so long ago that I let go. I still think of it sometimes whilst watching another sunset over the horizon .

I know a Dutch auction site where a NIB Pioneer with Brütsch Rügger is listed for €30. It's actually a Pioneer Rancher. I was thinking about buying it ;)

PM me if you are interested :D

I don´t collect them. (It would to be faaaar never ending story...)

But I don´t mind if there is some advertisement on knives.
For most cases I somehow like a little bit the advertisement on knives - it adds a bit history to it.
But if the advertisement is not metal inlay (and mostly it isn´t ) it wears down from scales.
So I am a fan of metal-inlay advertisements.

I have Wenger Wood 02 with advertisement on blade - New and cheap(-er) bought in auction.
Wenger Metal ("Coffin") with some oil-company advertisement on it.
I have one Tourist (or spartan?  ) that has metal inlay advertisement through all celidor scales - and that I like it.

My favourite black SwissLite had an advertisement of some swiss company. But it was just the print on scales, so it almost wore down.

I never had some multitool-pliers. The only one I have now is SwissTool spirit with an advertisement on handle. New and cheap(-er) bought.  :)

I don't care about advertisement on a SAK. I just got a Tinker with advertisement on the scales, and one of the most important pieces in my "collection", my grandfathers SAK, has advertisement on the blade. If the advertisement isn't too ugly, it's OK and I don't care. And if I could get the SAK for free because of that, well, who would complain about it  :gimme:

very nice, looks sort of cherry red rather than orange red like a normal red alox, is that just the photo, or is that how it really looks?

I was going to say it's just the photo, but it turns out to be a little bit more orange-red than my red Farmer. So, not cherry red, but also not the "regular" red :)

I like that Corn Scale! It reminds me of one I have been after for quite awhile now. It is called a Pioneer Hi-Breed and is a classic with corn scales. Just missed out on one a month ago for $33.

I have accummulated a number of advertizing 58mm Companions over time, and this thread inspired me to list them on EDCSource, as they are not really within my collecting scope :P
Here is the listing for Quaker State Companion, and there is a handful more (along with a couple of WWII-time Wengers...)
