Yahoo Custom Slipjoint

As promised, a little more info on my new knife :D

As it's my first custom slippie, I am over excited about it anyway, but I really think it's a great quality knife. I can only go on comparisons with others I have seen but not owned, and the overall workmanship and finish seems to be way out of it's price bracket. This came to me used, but still a bargain I think.

Here's the specs:
Cutting edge: 3in, overall 7,5in
Blade steel: M2
spring: 50HS
liners and pins stainless steel
green linen micarta scales, red vulcanized fibre spacers

It's quite a hefty piece for its size, just inside the legal carry laws for the UK. The tension on the backspring is pretty good which also makes it quite tough to open - no nail nicks - something I might consider changing. The micarta finish is very smooth, satin rather than a high polish so feels really nice in the hand.

I stole all these lovely pics (with permission) as they are better than any I could take! These ones show a nice size comparison with a 91mm Alox SAK. It's huge!  :o

And lastly, a nice shot of the end showing the well positioned and centred blade, with the rather rather red vulcanised rubber liners

I really like this knife. Sadly the maker (Yahoo) doesn't have his own site but lots of his work is on a Polish knifemakers forum here: http://www.knives.pl/forum/index.php/board,126.0.html

It's hefty and solid and feels like it could be used as a folding bushie type tool without any drama. I might contact Mr Yahoo and ask about the possibility of doing a bit of work to add a nail nick and possibly a lanyard hole too if it's possible, but those are just my particular wants. Otherwise I really can't find any fault with it and am very happy with my first custom :tu:

Yeah that is a fine looking blade.  I'll bet it's going to be a good slicer with that grind.  :tu:

That's lovely Chrissy.  It's also a lot bigger than I thought form the first picture, dare I say perhaps too big for my EDC taste?

Looks quality :tu:

I'm surprised it needs a nail nick.  There appears to be plenty of easily pinched metal
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

That is one beautiful knife you have Chrissy, that M2 blade should hold up to about anything, great looking handles, and I agree a nail nick would be great if your hands are wet or cold, enjoy!!!

That looks really nicely made!  Congratulations!

The fact is has no nail nick is quite strange if it doesn't have weak springs or has an easy open (cutout) frame to get more purchase on the blade to open it with pinched fingers. It would seem that a standard nail knick is necessary. This blade might also good with a long pull.

(canvas) micarta is one of my favorite materials and green is my favorite color. The knife looks great with the red spacers!

Better to keep that sucker well oiled if you want it to stay shiny. I have a M4 knife that I keep oiled mostly and the thumb ramp still turned gray from using it occasionally.

Old topic, but just saw this for the first time.

My god what a lovely knife.   I hope you're still enjoying it Chrissy.

Hell yeah :D

I actually haven't carried it around or used it too much but I was messing with the other day. I also came to the conclusion that it doesn't need the nail knick I was considering - there's plenty to pinch and the purity of the lines might be ruined by modification.

Definitely one of my favourite purchases :tu:
