So.  on the topic of resizing pics.
I took a screenshot on my phone.
About 1000 by 2000 pixels.
An image like that should be about 500KB, right?
But it was over 3 MB!
But then an online tool was able to convert it to a 300KB jpg, while keeping the same resolution.  :like:

Now I'm wondering why was the original so big, and what's the minimum size possible for a 1000x2000 pixel jpg?

compression.

one thing is the size of the photo, the other is the specific detail.

sometimes you'll see a % slider for compression (usually it's better to stay between say 70 and 90, over which is a huge file with barely noticeable details on the web, especially when it's been resized to fit a screen), that will reduce the overall detail in the photo, up close or full zoom you can see some detail has been removed.

Ok. Dumb question. I have an Android phone. I don't seem to be able to upload my photos here. Maybe they're too big.

Is there a way to get into my Android phone camera system (it's an LG, about 3 years old) and just have it take SMALLER resolution pictures, so I don't have to downsize them????

You can use an download an app called photo and picture resizer to shrink the file size without losing the quality of the picture.

Whoo-hoo, it worked!  :ahhh  :woohoo:

Ok, so what I found was an ap for my phone. It's called Compress Photo Puma. (I'm writing this from my PC, so I can't necessarily link directly to it, but you should be able to download it). It seems to work great, and is very very intuitive. So now I can downsize my photos quick and easy to 500 and it worketh greatly.

Like this picture of a Tee-post I hit with the sawmill today. Hee-hee.

Well done.  :tu:

So shrinking pictures to attach to posts is one option and they go at the end of the post.

Another option is to put them on a picture hosting site (flickr etc) and insert the code into your post, that way they don't have to be quite so small (but still shouldn't be massive) and you can put them where you want in your post (eg between text).
