The MUTs Have Arrived.
on: November 04, 2010, 10:12:02 PM
Yay, I finaly get to see what all the fuss is about first hand. My pre-order from Multitool.org just came in. A big thank you goes out to Travis.  :salute:

Well I won’t bore you with first impressions overly much other than to point out a few salient facts. I will let the photos say most of it.

The odd thing about the MUT was the holes on the side of the plier head. After looking at it closely, I noted small threads. I wondered if OTIS attachments would fit in, and yes, they do. A bit ingenious this.

Both sides have this attachment point. However, when closed, only one is available.

They are such solid looking beasts, and really clever design work too. Love the longer bits especially :tu:

Thanks for the pics Dan

Besides the plierhead and the area around the pin/spike are there any other differences between the EOD and the regular model?

Still so impressed by the amount of thought and engineering that went into those things.

Cap crimper plier head and c4 Spike are the only differences that I can see that distinguish the EOD from the regular MUT.

The area near the spike is shaped differently right? Can the spike fit on the regular model and can the pin fit on the EOD model?

I have been  over these pics for quite a while now and am convinced this multitool has many uses beyond an AR15.  I plan to definitely get one at some point  :tu:

The Spike on the EOD is larger, and thus the base insert is shaped to fit it. You could put the pin instead of the spike with no problems on the EOD model, but you wouldn't be able to fit the spike on the non EOD model as the base insert won't allow it.

That confuses me a little. Why didn't Leatherman make all the models able to fit the spike? It seems silly to make two different versions of the same part for no reason.

Just guessing, but it looks like the takedown punch would be able to wobble side-to-side if it sat in the insert meant for the C4 spike.  That'd be bad on the threaded portion in the long run.
Half-ass done wholeheartedly!

I don't have a favorite of the 3.

If push came to shove, probably the non BO MUT simply because it doesn’t' get your hands all black.
