Hello from Wonderful Wyoming!
on: November 10, 2010, 09:08:17 PM
Of course, like any good forumite I posted elsewhere prior to making the introduction, but it's the thought that counts, right? ;)

I stumbled over to this forum after recently getting back into SAKs (mostly Vic) and was doing some research on the models I owned, new ones I bought, and future ones I like. I just hope I can avoid catching the custom/mod bug as I don't need another pricey hobby. I typed that knowing full well I am doomed.

I've been collecting knives all my life (since age 7-8 I believe, so going on 30+ years). My grandmother bought me my first knife -- a Vic 2-blade "pen" knife with faux tortoise shell scales (a Pocket pal I believe). I still have that knife on display in my home. I even carry her old Vic Classic every day on my keychain. For many years I was all about the SAKs and I remember how I felt like I had really arrived when I got my Champ as a gift in high school.

SAKs led to Case, Case to Benchmade, SOG, Emerson, etc., and next I knew I was well deep into custom knives. That went on for years until in August when I picked up a Vic Climber 125th on the trip during which I proposed to my girlfriend. Since then I've been carrying nothing but my old and new SAKs (admittedly in part because I have been traveling so much and I don't worry if the TSA thieves decide to swipe a Tinker out of my checked bags).

So now I find myself collecting SAKs again and loving every minute of it.

I happen to admin another forum and have always had a hard time splitting my time between multiple forums, so I may not be as active here as I would like to be, but I do see myself perusing the old and new thread for information and hopefully adding to the forum when I do post.

Thanks for the site!

-Al-

Welcome!

I'm a big fan of Wyoming.  I did some ice climbing outside of Cody a year ago:

Walked across the Shoshone River, at one spot, the ice broke through and I almost went for a January swim. ;)

Never works. :) Luckily I'm at the point in my collecting that it has become mostly self-sustaining -- buy something, sell something.

Mostly.
