Ha ha I'm 32 and I have never used a corkscrew once. I'm thinking when I take apart my pro I'll replace the corkscrew with a different tool...... not sure what though.

I dont use a corkscrew for opening wine but now I have a sak mini screwdriver attached to it so I can keep me glasses tighten up!  It works well! :)

Aye, the mini-driver fits in there rather nicely. Fits better in my XE6 than it did with the Climber. Guess I should order a few more mini-drivers... Juice XE6, Spartan, and new BO EvoGrip 63.

You can magnetize the mini-driver to use both as a compass and to hold those tiny magnetic screws.

Weird.... I have an overseas S2 and it seems to be top quality.

There is no such thing as an oversees S2. They are all made and assembled in Portland, some of the tools (pliers and files) are made in other countries though and then shipped back to the US for finishing and assembly.

You realize you are contradicting yourself right? I assume the tools and pliers head are manufactured "overseas then shipped to Portland for final assembly. This doesn't bother me. They are still high quality tools in my opinion.

I thought there should be a sea between for something to be overseas. Mexico and Canada ;)

Damn!

This means that ALL of my Leatherman tools were made overseas. In fact so were my SAKs and Gerbers, and Bucks, and Spydercos.....

What to do? What to do??  :ahhh :ahhh

Got my orange S2 last night.  Really like the size and look, but not real excited for the blade.  Seems kind of weak compared to even a wingman's blade.  S2 should really go for around $30-35, not +$45.

I guess I am just spoiled with my other full size MTs.  But this S2 will come in handy with it's size and carrying.

I am ordering the XE6 now to see which I like best, and one will go back...maybe

Hi all
been reading the forum for a few days and have a question about the XE6. Hope it is ok to post the question in this thread.

I got an XE6 a week or so ago. Generally happy with it, but the straight scewdrivers were very stiff if not impossible to open by hand. After reading around it became apparant that this is a common problem, but some are worse than others. As I bought it from amazon, I decided to take a gamble on a replacement.
The  new one is a bit better on the drivers - but the pliers are awful compared to the original. They catch a bit when the wire cutter jaws first engage, but then catch again and have maybe 0.5mm gap between the end of the jaws unless you squeeze very hard.
I had pretty much decided to keep the original (which have loosend up a bit with some repeated working) but gave them a good comparison first. The scissors are also noticeably looser on the newer one, but still cut paper ok.

Now for my question... I noticed a difference in the writing on the backs of the tools. The original has "LEATHERMAN (R) PAT PEND" whereas the newer one has "LEATHERMAN" in a larger outline font if that makes sence. Sorry don't have a photo at the moment.

Does anyone know when this change occurred? I have read of people referring to date codes, but can't see any on mine. Where should I be looking?

At the moment I have them both and need to decide which one to keep and which to return.

Sorry for the lengthy post.
I will try and get a piccy up later and join the owners club properly.
Thanks.

Got my XE6 today and not real happy with access to some of the tools.  And some drivers are hard as hell and uncomfortable to pull out. Lack of quick access sucks.  Would rather have another Wave instead for the price, this one is going back.  Guess I am not ready for the Juice club..... :(

Lubrication is the key. Work the tool parts in an out. The back springs are tough, and when you get them lubricated well enough they fly out - often leaving snake bites. So you learn to open the drivers from the side.

date codes are hard to find on the Juice aren't they Mickey? :D  Have a look on the liner beside the Phillips and the flat drivers.  They are hidden from view by the drivers when they are closed.  So open up the drivers, look down into the channel and the four digit code will be on the 'wall' of the channel.  As you have done a bit of reading you'll likely know this but the four digits represent month and year; so 0313 would be March 2013. :)  Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply.
I did start a new thread, with photos, to avoid de-railing this one.
The older one is quite easy to see as it happens and is 0611 on both sides. The newer one is VERY faint, but I think it might be 0311 on one. Still trying to decide which one to keep, but I think the newer one with the sticking pliers are going back.

Here are some pics of my (temporary) juice collection.

Corrected my earlier post, it should have said 0312 for the newer one.

baja820, if that photo was for me - thanks.  :tu:

Having two I can see where the marks are one one of them which is quite easy to read. It is at least as well defined as in your photo. The other one is much, much fainter and almost looks like it was an attempt at laseretching or something instead of stamping.

I know I'm being lazy in not reading back but I have an XE6 (says tool not USA) which doesn't have the date codes in the above place

Where else might they be hiding if at all?
