carry items
on: December 27, 2010, 04:59:40 AM
I was just wondering if the majority of people carry the same items day after day or if they change up daily or perhaps carry one thing for a month or two and then change?  I am trying to decide which works best for me.

I'm very consistent, carrying the same thing always.  I spice it up a bit by carrying something extra, but very rarely don't carry my regular edc.

I can go for many months with the same items then change , either because I get bored or because another tool fills my needs at the time .

With the exception of my keychain items and my flashlight, I often find myself switching out various items.  Often I find myself in a light mood, carrying not much more than my keychain, a Cadet, and a Maratac AAA, other times, I carry all of that, plus a Spirit X, plus another dedicated folder; it just depends. :D

I carry different stuff all most every day mostly a multi tool (Kick,PST II,Skeletool or Free Style) and a SAK. But do carry a small tool bag in my truck that contains lots of small tools, frist aid and fire kits and my most useful tools my Swiss Spirit with ratchet kit and my Crunch and i keep a Wave and a Swiss Champ in my wife's pruse.  :D

I used to change it up quite a bit, but it's pretty much settled these days. There's a small bit of variance depending on the goings-on that day, but in generally it's pretty consistent. I carried basically the exact same things for years, then over the last couple years of crusading for the perfect EDC for me, it changed sometimes drastically from one day to the next. I found what is more or less the perfect set-up for me now and it varies little.

I essentially have 3 EDC sets:

Work set- Charge TTi, flashlight on keychain, Swisscard in wallet.
Casual carry - Skeletool in pocket, flashlight on keychain, Swisscard in wallet.
Hiking/camping set - varies

I don't change my EDC unless I find a tool that better suits my needs which doesn't happen often.

I always carry a Vic Classic on my keychain and a Stubby Razel in my pocket, the only thing that I change up is the multitool. It's either a Leatherman Juice XE6, KF4, or old school wave.

I have to say I'm very consistant with a few variables. Mostly the flashlight, folder and SAK change from time to time. Everything else stays the same.

Some items are constant , like the Atwood on my keys , all else is in flux . The Novatac 120 EDC I scored fro G.G. is pretty much a fixture , as are the Lamy Scribbles that inhabit my pen pocket .

SAK wise it's mostly my Vic. Handyman ( on a Monroe dangler - X  G.G.) , at work it's a Vic. Electrician Plus .

Plier based tools is a bit of a barfight between the Spirit X , the Wave , and Freestyle . The choice on the nature of the days duties .

Since I have a desk job, my EDC is pretty constant. Aside from the standard assortment of keys and wallet and phone, the only MT I carry is a Style CS. Granted, I only picked it up last month, but it's been there ever since.  :)

Before that, I had a Rambler that had been on my keys since last February. I don't generally carry a full sized MT except when doing chores around the house or hiking and camping; I love me my ST Spirit for that. My Powerlock and a Farmer rides in the tool bag in my car, too.

Something like that. I`m always trying different stuff. My edc changes alot. Sometimes a little some times a lot. The only consistant thing lately has been the Spyderco Military, Atwood G4 Prybaby and Stainless whistle.    :D

It depends on what I'm wearing, if I have a bag or not and where I'm probably off to :)

Mine changes when I'm outdoors but at work it's usually a Fenix LD15 AA, Skeletool CX and Squirt S4 in right pocket and Preon Revo and A G Russell tweezers on my keychain. I have a Charge TTI, Spyderco Sage 2 and MUT along with a first responders kit and Fenix TK 15 in my car's trunk in an Emergency Response bag.

My EDC tends to stay constant for some time, and I'll change it up for a change of pace. Have to justify owning so many different knives and assorted other crap! :)

I usually carry at least a folder.  Other than that I have a multitool in my car at all times along with basic tools.  On the bike I have a Pocket tool x Mako bike tool.  If I'm going to be outside or working on the house I have my Charge Ti or any of the 15 other multitools I own.   :multi:

At the very least I carry a Skeletool CX and Atwood; (its light enough to carry even with gym shorts)
Around the house I add on a Charge ALX and a Manix 2;
If I am taking my car the keys come with a Juice S2;
And at work I add a razor knife;

Yes the list is cumulative; Yes I carry way too much stuff; I like it that way :ahhh

If I get a new MT/knife I will try and work it into rotation just to try it out, but I generally seem to fall back to this setup.

i tend to carry the same stuff for long periods. I if i do change it, the new set up will be able to do what the old edc did if that makes sense.

Thanks for all of the replys.  I am trying to lighten my EDC load a little bit and wanted some ideas.  I consolidated to one keyring and shifted a couple of things around and took a couple of items out of the rotation as they were a bit redundant.

I do mix it up abit depending.
I carry more for a work day than a day off.
Work has my sog power assist and extra bits ect while weekends are my sak mainly.
I do tend to carry more specific stuff for other days like bike or canoe trips or camping.
Peace
