buck multitools
on: January 06, 2011, 10:28:29 PM
I haven't seen a thread like this so I thought I would make a list of the buck tools made. First are the original buck tools.
1 Buck 350
2 buck 355
3 buck 360 Standard
4 buck 360 electrician
5 buck 360 with lanyard
6 x tract
7 x tract led
8 x tract fin
9 x tract essential
...
what is missing?

the 350 is the equivelant to the leatherman p4. small pliers, nail cleaner / file, tweezers, knife, phillips driver, bottle opener with screwdriver.

the 355 has pliers, file, awl, phillips, lanyard, knife, bottle opener, and three straight screwdrivers.

the 360 has pliers, three straight screwdrivers, two phillips, knife, can opener, and sheep foot blade.
the 360 lanyard tool has the same but is missing one phillips and has a lanyard. intersting to me is that the phillips has four sides to it while the original 360 uses three sided phillips. All buck tools have symbols and the handle indicating which impliments it has. The 360 lanyard shows two phillips drivers on the handle but only has one. Bad pic..

the 360 electrician has pliers, two phillips, awl, three straight screwdrivers, sheep foot blade, and a cool file that is chisel ground and has wire strippers.

the x tract has a knife, pliers, phillips and straight screwdrivers, and a can opener. the x tract led is identical with an led light.
the x tract fin has scissors in place of the can opener and the knife blade is plain edge. it also comes with a diamond file with a groove for sharpening hooks.
the x tract essential has plain edge knife, scissors, and phillips and straight screwdrivers.
I also threw in the twin peaks as an honorable mention. it has two knives, bottle opener / screwdriver and a corkscrew.

Buck has a few one piece tools, like the TOPS collaboration and these Rescue/Skinners:

There's also the Metro, which qualifies as a multitool in th elosest sense of the term:

Fits onto the phillips .   Here's a pic of it installed.         Also added a Chinese Bucktool for comparison.

Grant,

I think the one piece tools count.

Dennis,

that is intersting. I had no idea there was an adapter. Did it come with the tool?

I think I once saw a buck tool with a pocket clip also.

Yes, it came with the tool . The sheath has an extra pocket for the bits.

The 360 with the file was officially introduced in 2000 as the BuckTool 360FL model. The files can be found with either 5 notches like yours and Dennis's, or with just a single notch. (I'm not sure which one came out first..?)

Also intro'ed in 2000 was the:

360CL .....with a belt clip
360BK .....with black oxide finish
and 360CM .....with camo finish

The sheaths for these tools were very well made.  They use snaps for them also-bonus points.

Thanks for the comments.  The 360 with the Zirconium Nitride (Titanium)coating is one of my most recent acquisitions and favorites. It is 1 of 7 made and was CJ Buck's (CEO of Buck Knives) personal Buck Tool. It was signed by CJ Buck. It came with a COA.
 I noticed the nice Harley Davidson Buck Tool in an above post, they are some I am still searching for to add to my collection.

Howdy Longbow. :salute: Those are indeed some beauties you've got there! :o I saw the auction for a CJ Buck autographed camo 360, but I never saw the zirconium nitride one. Wow, she's a real gem! :drool:

How about this one? A 1 of 400 First Production Run 360 from 1996 :)

J-sews that 360 is a nice collectible! Those were made for the Buck Collectors Club Inc. I have one numbered 164 of 400 mine is still in the pack like yours. Are you a member of the BCCI?

Nope, not a member myself. :-\ I actually picked up my FPR 360 a few years ago from a guy who was (is?) a member though. :)

So is the BCCI a pretty active organisation?

Yes the BCCI is 2,000 plus members and growing. I attend some of their yearly functions. BCCI have rendezvous various places across the USA. I live near the Buck Knives Factory and every 5 years the BCCI come to the Buck Factory for their rendezvous.  The next rendezvous will be here in 2013. That is how I got involved with them.

Mmmm, I like that FIN model better than the original X-tract. :) The plain edge blade suits me, plus scissors instaed of a can opener, plus rubbery handles instead of hard plastic. :) What's not to like? :cheers:

From the Swissbuck series, I've added a bit of additional information from a catalog I came across not too long ago:

    * Advantage / Sidekick (Sidekick name needs to be added to the Wiki, btw)
    * Delemont / Pocketmate (likewise, Pocketmate needs to be added)
    * Fishtale
    * Globetrotter
    * Greensmaster
    * Legend (although also listed as a Pocketmate on the Wiki, the Pocketmate lacked the keyring the Legend has; see above)
    * Odyssey
    * Remedy
    * Swissmate I
    * Swissmate II
    * Swissmate III
    * Taskmate I
    * Taskmate II
    * SwissBuck Trekker

Here is a web page that lists and show some Swiss Bucks. Go down almost to the bottom of the page to the Swiss Buck heading.

Granted, this only shows ten of the models, but it does show some corrections that I made when I posted the list over from SAKWiki.
