A Confession
on: January 22, 2011, 01:41:41 AM
It's been a little over two weeks since I received and started to carry either my Farmer or Pioneer on an everyday basis, and I have to admit, I didn't think they'd last too long in my pocket.  I figured that while they were certainly nice knives, they just wouldn't be as useful to me as my Super Tinker.     MIA CULPA!  I absolutely love these!  The Farmer gets the nod for being slightly wider and more comfortable in my hand.  No scissors? That's what the blade is for!  No toothpick or tweezers? I always have a Classic SD on my key chain (scissors there, too!) Over the past few weeks, I've used every tool on these knives, not always in the manner that they were intended to be used.  The large screwdriver makes a perfect paint can opener.  The awl worked beautifully in clearing a clogged nozzle on one of my store's paint tinting machines.  I even used the saw to cut a piece of scrap wood at the store to make a stain sample for a customer!  The alox handles have an overall more sturdy feel than the handles on the Tinker.  I have a new EDC, and she's a beaut!
There's no such thing as "Too pretty to carry".  There's only "Too pretty NOT to carry"...... >:D

Agree.

The Farmer is a compact workhorse. If I don't need pliers or OHO, that's the one I carry.

I'm a big fan of the Pioneer. I own about 15 of them now.  :tu:  I love the Farmer too, but I just didn't need the saw very often.

The best Urban Pioneer is not made by Victorinox.  ...but thanks to the Modders they are a reality (this one by Scibeer).

Those are really beautiful... I need a custom with the Electrician's blade as well.  I'm planning my ultimate Alox knife... right now though if I put it together (or had someone else put it together) it would look like the Cadillac in the great Johnny Cash song.  That's not necessarily going to stop me though.

I always thought the best features of the alox knives are that they look cool and are easy to clean. Seems to me that the toughness of plastic scale knives isn't so much of a problem anyway.

Since we're all talking about our personal ultimate alox inventions here, mine would be a first mate with a can opener in place of the bottle opener.

...Not something I'd want to attempt myself, those things aren't cheap.

As a plus for the Alox scales, I just discovered that a Farmer will go through a wash cycle without any harm whatsoever !

Cellidor and nylon SAKs will also.  Don't run any that have electronics in them through the wash though!
