My Fun Day
on: October 24, 2007, 05:07:17 AM
It's been an interesting 24 hours here is Bisonland. First off, a railroad tank car leaked hydrochloric acid at a rail yard across river from me,initiating a small evacuation near the yard, and a slightly larger scale shelter in place. You can bet the farm I had a BOB close to hand. The shelter in place was lifted at 10 AM this morning, while this was going on some good heavy rain moved in....finally.When the rain finally moves on about 2 inches is due to fall.I replaced the sump pump earlier this year, and since then, the drought took hold...now's the time to see the thing works as it should.
Life in the Ohio Valley...nothing like it in the world!

I love trains, but I have to admit, there's never any small or minor accidents when it comes to them!  I'm glad to hear you are all ok though.  That can be a really nasty situation, and hydrochloric acid isn't something to fool around with.

So far,so good on the basement front, another big dose of rain is due in Thursday evening, and I won't complain really, if it all breaks the drought.Yesterday's incident was the third such at the yards in 6 weeks, but the first that got that far along.

Sounds as though they've got a big problem down there then, maybe it's a lack of investment in the permanent way ???, those freight trains certainly pound the rails :o

Three incidents in six weeks at the rail yard?  I think I'd be writing some pretty nasty letters if I were you.

The railroad in question is CSX,and I'm not too enthralled by their safety record, seems like there's always some kind of derailment or such going on in their operations. On my side of the river,is the mainline of NorfolkSouthern, and around here at least, one seldom hears of any accidents.
Undoubtedly there's going to be an investigation or two into the past incidents.

CSX is the one that has a station here in SE Georgia as well, I am always getting ticked at a train for being in my way to or from work, always a nuisance :P
