Victorinox Safari (Solo) Adventurer
on: March 08, 2011, 01:53:32 AM
How rare are these? Tim states they are impossible to find anymore and I have found a site with a couple. There is only one type isn't there?
All mushrooms are edible, some only once.

Hard to get in the US I believe, but still readily available in the UK (if not other parts of Europe as well).
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

Yup, a little hard to find in the US.  They can be found though, with a little hunting sometimes for less that $10.

There are 2 current 108mm models, apart from that special Swiss Shark one: the Solo and Solo Plus (Solo with corkscrew).
Readily available over here for about €12 (new) :)
You should seriously visit vicfan.com. All the hoopy froods are doing it.

Someone else might know better but I don't think the Solo Plus is readily available here. :-\

Yeah its only the imitation one which is at least good enough for me. The genuine stag was only produced in limited numbers though but i would like to find one as im collecting the 108mm series. I have 10 different ones so far.

Solo is from many UK sources but the Solo Plus doesn't seem to be any more.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

No worries Zed, i will show them all when i get them. Im quite excited really. Never thought much of the 108mm series, always remember seeing the lone 108mm solo in the older catalogues from not so long ago, looked like a cheap plasticky thing and i never considered getting one at all. Then i discovered the whole safari series and Gak. Got a couple yesterday and boy, did i get a surprise. Pure quality.

The 108mm scaled knives may have been the best Value for the dollar series from Victorinox.

One of the other things I've grown to like about the 108mm knives is that all the tools pivot at the top end.  No fumbling or turning the knife around... I can see in the military, where you want many actions to be automatic and reliable, this to be a VERY good feature we don't talk about enough.

I posted this pick a while back, but I should take some better ones.

Photo as promised. Still waiting for the GAKs to arrive

Solo Adventurer ------ Soldat Trooper
Solo Plus          ------ Hunter
Shark              ------ Pathfinder
Hunter Stag (imt) ---- Safari
                        ---- Mauser

No serated blades unfortuantely. if anyone has any new ones with serated gutting blades then i would buy them or do a swap.

I noticed the solo adventurer, shark and solo plus have darker red scales.

Im trying to get the whole set.

Do your Solo and Solo Plus have the newer "SWISS MADE" tang stamp?

Sorry, I missed that :)

No, it's not a bad thing. I am just wondering if all current Solo and Solo Plus knives with the newer tang stamp have dark red scales (and vice versa) :)

Not really sure if the darker red is on purpose or if thats just how the batch came out, different plastic supplier or something ???. Its genuine Victorinox so thats the main thing ;)
