Tank007 E07 OSRAM AA-format flashlight modified with a piece of quantum tunneling composite = twisty, infinitely variable flashlight for under $20 total (actually closer to $15).

Shouldn't, at least not negatively. I got the QTC from a member on another forum but he may be out - unfortunately the only way to get it is in something like 70 piece purchases from a couple of sellers in the UK. A group buy may be in order if lots of people want them.

The Tank007 is available from a lot of the Chinese sellers, I would suggest Manafont.com or Kaidomain.com. It's one of the few lights that works near perfectly for this mod because it doesn't have a spring and thus you can control the compression of the QTC very easily.

Whelp, busted this light already. Put in a 14500 and after 20 seconds or so *poof*. No more Osram. Fun while it lasted.

Rma? You were overdriving it. One vendor states 1.5v max, and even so, that little body can't dissipate the heat. No wonder you blew the led...

And the vendor I bought it from states that 14500s are supported, as does the manufacturer.

Serious? Man, they are pretty irresponsible, that little light could rarely handle 14500s. I've seen many similar ones that don't recommend 14500s due to heat issues. Considering the spotty quality control on many of the lower priced lights, I'm not too suprised about the blown light.

Nah, I sent a video of the light not working to the vendor I purchased it from and they're sending a replacement out, but it's gonna take a while to get here. Can't find it locally.

As to 14500 support, I dunno. I've got at least one other Tank007 light and have used a few more that work well on 14500s so I didn't have too much of a reason to doubt the specs. The E07 also has a very large solid brass pill for heat dissipation. I guess in this case it just wasn't enough.

With the brass pill, I would say it's designed to dissipate heat better than my Q-MiNi AA, and I run 14500 in it frequently. I am careful about not using high for long though...

Oh, and the other Tank007 that I have has much better fit and finish than that Crelant you sold me, so this is hardly a fair assumption.

Spotty, as in some are good, some are not.

It is not an assumption, it is a fairly well known fact. I'm not insulting you or the light, just saying a lot of the lower priced ones can be hit or miss.

What was wrong with the Crelant. Quality seemed great to me...

Initial quality was fine, but the finish isn't holding up very well - there are a lot of chips out of the anodizing after a month and I don't keep it in my pocket with my keys or change.

I need to get ahold of a piece of QTC. I gave my wife an E07 for Christmas 2009, and we rarely use it because the light is too freaking bright for most of the stuff you'd use a tiny single AA for.
