What can you use the hook for.
on: March 10, 2011, 09:23:10 AM
A lot of guys ask what the hook can be used for. Well i have a suggestion. For those of you who are into motorcycles, you will often see that the exhaust pipes are mounted to the engine cylinder with several springs, commonly found on 2 strokes and that the mufflers are held onto the tail pipes with a couple springs too. These are impossible to stretch and put on by hand and you need to  use a T-handle tool with a hook and stretch and pull the spring onto the other loop on the part. I reckon the SAK hook would work quite well for this as you would get a good grip of it in your hand. I haven't tried this yet though. The same method can be used to install sidestand or centerstand springs however im not sure the SAK would be up to this task as those springs are much stiffer, have thicker wire and hard to stretch on but for exhaust springs i think it would work. There may even be springs under a car bonnet in the engine bay that need to be stretched to be installed too so a SAK may work there too. If you have a lawnmower or rotary hoe there maybe springs on that too that you could fit by using a SAK too.

Excellent point! I'll be putting my bike back together after the heads get back from the shop. I'll give it a go and let you know how the SAK hook worked.  :tu:

I ride my bike to work, and the chain sometimes get stuck in the sprockets. Removing it means getting the hands covered in oil, the hook is perfect for avoiding this.

The hook is great from relieving your hands of those plastic bags you get at the grocery store.  When I'm in Mexico, I often have to walk a couple of miles home with the groceries, and with the bags attached to the hook, the SAK makes a very comfortable handle.  Of course, this is very close to the intended purpose of the hook anyway.

Victorinox suggest you can use the hook to convert a Lite-model SAK (Voyager Lite, Traveler Lite, etc.) into a stand-up lamp, thought I don't think it would work. The key ring makes the knife topple over I think

I think this has been said before somewhere. You can use it as a clothes hanger. When out in the public at restrooms. Use it to hang your coat on.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

I found it more complicated to use the hook then to not. I like the awl best for undo knots.

I've found the corkscrew to be amazingly quick for removing tight knots from paracord.

Some good hook ideas here.  I need to remember that I have it before I can use it!

This does work!  The hook has to be open way past 90, as shown, and it balances fine.

Another reason I like this forum: I get to learn new words. Now, just need to practice their use.

I must adjust this stain from my shirt.

When you adjust a new knife from a blister, don't cut yourself.

When I come home with dirty boots, I must adjust them before entering.

The suggested solution works fine, as J Mackrel Jones has already pointed out :tu:

The Hook is full open ... mini screwdriver is fully twisted :o  :D

But, with some little effort, using a SAK, of course, the "stand-up lamp" can be levated in the higher standing position.
Hook in 90° position ... mini screwdriver is partially unscrewed  :ahhh >:D

Clue zoom ... 8)

And finally, here is the very stand-up lamp :D
Hook in 45° position ... mini screwdriver is still partially unscrewed in the same manner
