What an evening
on: November 04, 2007, 12:09:05 AM
Well it all started off with me winning a victorinox SportRatchet on the bay of evil http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=260175795134&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=016 Then it was straight out the door to go to a firework display , Its Guy Fawkes night on Monday ( November 5th ) on this side of the pond so this weekend the skys of England are ablaze with fireworks  :D The one we went to was held by a lifeboat station a few miles down the coast  ( Caister) . We met up with a crew mate from my station and his family . My car was overheating as we waited to get into the car park but I think its ok and just a little low on water .The Display was good with lots of burgers and local caught Herring  :D Had a look round there boats one of which is alot bigger then ours and is jet powered ( as in water jet with no prop rather then jet engine  ::) ) They have much more money then us but then again are busier the us .At the end as we were walking back to our cars a man on a electric scooter/wheelchair drove up and incline and toppled over with the scooter rolling over him . We rushed over along with a couple of Caisters crew but luckily he was ok but was shaken up , we made sure he had no injuries before gently helping him up and back on his scooter . So an eventfull night and I'm sitting here now with a bottle of red wine and reading up on Sportrachets  :D

Looks like a good day for Dunc!  Damn, I don't know how you could have had a better one!

Sportratchets are fascinating, despite being more or less useless, and I think everyone should have one, just to prove that sometimes even the best monkeys fall out of trees!  I can't wait to publish your thoughts on it for SOSAKOnline next month! :P

Some nice equipment that other lifeboat service has!  I'd hate to be as well equipped as they are if it means they have to be that much busier- seems to me that cops, SARTechs, firefighters and meatwagon drivers shouldn't be all that busy if they have the choice!

In the last picture, what's forbidden?

Also, the Guy Fawkes thing has always confused me.  While blowing up the government seems like a good idea to me :P, I have to wonder how it is that an act of attempted terrorism turned into such a celebration?  Are they celebrating Guy Fawkes, or his capture and the subsequent rescue of Parliament?

Sounded like a great evening you had Dunc (apart from the man on his scooter). I didn't got to a display tonight, but yours looked pretty good there, great pics you've taken. Glass of Red wine and reading about Victorinox products, can't be bad  :D

Whats with the Jim Davidson boat, does he go down there a lot or something?

Def no problem about the write up for SOSAK , thanks for asking . It goes without saying that it wont be a user but a treasured collection piece . I dont think they were ever available in the UK although I cant be sure . What did they retail at ? Cant believe I got it for only £20.64 you cant even buy a Huntsman in the shops for that  :o
The Forbidden in the last pic is something like " Forbidden entry while moving "
As for Guy Falkes its celebrating his capture and execution . The bonfire and fireworks are for what could have happened if he had pulled it off .

cryptrick the Jim Davidson connection is that he sponsors the boat and raises alot of money for them along with Bernard Matthews ( the turkey tycoon ) , thats why they have so much money . They claim it cost £2500 a week to run the station while it cost us about £10000 a year to run ours .

Hey Dunc, just in case you or M.TEX don't get an owner's manual with your SportRatchets, I just now posted mine up at the Multitool Encyclopedia HERE.

Thanks Bob thats great  :D I read with interest where it said " The SportRatchet is designed for board sport hardware only ( i.e. snowboard, wake board and skateboard).Using the SportRatchet on products other then that for which it is designed could irreparably damage the ratchet mechanism. "

Hmmm, never noticed that before. Also of note is where it specifies only a one-year warranty on the ratchet and bit holder.  :-\
