I don't know if there are black refills available or not- try contacting Tom (Rotokid) as he's the SAK parts king.

I'll answer on Tom's behalf on this one. All current refills are blue. There were black ones back in the day but not now.

This might be a little OT but why would black ink pens be illegal?  I know that over here teachers can no longer grade tests of their students using red ink because it might hurt the students feelings. :D

Its not that its  illegal its just that black shows up better after a document has been photocopied .What Micky said was most Legal documents MUST be filled in with black ink . He didnt mean it was illegal to use it .

When I was studying various security, investigation and other law enforcement type things I was told in no uncertain terms to always use black pen.  Of course, I was also told always write in all caps, and while I adhere to these rules, I see many cops not bothering, and their notes often look like a prescription from a drunk doctor.  I'd hate to be trying to prosecute a case with the cop's notes as evidence.

Long ago and far away when I was in the psychiatric field, for documentation we had to use black pen up till 2300 (when the night shift came on)  then switch to red ink until 0700 (when day shift came on).  Go figure.

Is our age showing on us? I had to use red ink on 3rd shift, when I worked as an orderly back in my college days.Mrs. Bison is an RN,and in the first several years of her career, black ink was used on first shift7A-3P,GREEN ink on 2nd shift 3P-11P,and red on 3rd 11P-7A,and this wasn't just a one hospital thing either.
