Brass liners
on: March 30, 2011, 09:45:41 AM
Whats the big deal with these?

Is it looks?
Or that they dont corrode as easily?
They offer a bearing like surface?

Just wondering if this is a worthwhile upgrade at the expense of added weight.

I wouldn't upgrade to them but they're certainly not a bad thing to have :)
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Are they a backwards step then?

No, they do the job fine and because they are not used as much they are a bit different and so folks like to see/use them.  I don't think they add or detract any practicality though.

Well im considering them because i like the idea that they wont really corrode and the tools might move against them more freely. Victorinox must have used them for a reason. The up market models seemed to have them fitted..

To be fair I've not found any corrosion issues with the nickel silver liners they otherwise use in the 93mm range.  They sure look pretty when polished though :D

Does anyone know which year the brass liners were first used on the alox knives?
Just wondered.

There was a very recent thread where someone quoted Vic with some dates on the liner changes.  I'll try to dig it up.
