Saved a life
on: January 06, 2025, 04:17:11 AM
Was at the beach on the weekend.
Not really a beach, beach, but a sandy beach in a lake.
Some poor dog had gotten away from its kid and attempted to jump a fence.
Caught its lead and was strangling itself.
The kid who owned it couldn't undo the collar and had nothing with which to cut either the collar or lead.

Along I came with my trusty Victornox Classic and managed to hack through the lead with my 1 inch baby blade, freeing the dog.

Now, it would have been so much easier with any of my real knives, but the old Victornox managed to eventually get through, and a real knife would make me a dangerous felon under Australian law..

Who says a knife isn't a necessary tool.

And for all the logical people out there.
1) No, I could not lift the dog back over the fence to untangle it, it was a rather large dog and not very happy with anyone near it.
2) Also, With the weight of the dog on the lead, and the way it was tangled, no one could undo it.
3) And there as no way that I was going to put my hands near the "bitey" bit in an attempt to undo the collar.

Cutting the lead was the safest and easiest solution, but a real knife instead of a toy would have been more efficient.

Nicely done!  Always good to carry some sort of blade.
May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Good there is still someone around with adequate tools for such sudden tasks!

(Without comparison I once untangled a reindeer that had gotten itself stuck in a fence. It was as frozen while I worked, but once it realized it was free it took off running - but not before sending a voluminous spray of crap in my direction..  :ahhh )

Never underestimate the abilities of a Classic!  Years ago a member over at KF told a story of a deer that had been road killed right in front of him on Thanksgiving and so he field dressed it with a Classic.

Besides, there is no better tool than the one you have with you when you need it, and you definitely needed it in this case!  Good job saving the dog!

Yay for the Classic. Looks like a toy, functions like a real tool.
