To buy or not, Surefire E2D defender?
on: July 02, 2011, 05:00:21 PM
I'm after a torch/flashlight and really like the look of the Surefire, but can I really justify spending £130 on one?  I have an upgraded iTP A3 EOS AAA on my keyring but looking for something better for when the nights start drawing in.

Also like the look of the Jetbeam RRT-ll.

Just hope the wife doesn't read this.

Defender is really funny IMO. We have handguns here in the states that are real Defenders! If you just want to temporally blind a Thug the Romisen RC-N3 should do the trick IMO. 2 AA batteries or one CR123A. JMO.

Pepper Spray is another choice that is non- lethal. Not sure you guys across the pond can carry it though?

Hi

Not really bothered about any "defender" capabilities it just looks a very nice bit of kit with its crenellated bezel.

I looks different than all the others which is why I like it.

The Defender sure does have a cool look about it. 8)

Are you thinking about getting the LED one, or an older incandescent? :)

If you are talking about the LED version, I don't like how it starts on high first, blow your night vision so you can't see things with low anyway.

Surefire has discontinued the E2D incandescent version (60 lumens), and some stores are selling them at a discount.  I have one of the first E2DL's sold (1 setting - factory error), which I like (I'm not too fond of multi-level lights, even though I have a few).  You may want to look at the Surefire 6PD (incandescent) and the 6PDL (LED).  They are a little larger than the E2D, but feature the strike bezel and are a little cheaper.  The LED 6PDL has also been discontinued, so you may find it being sold at a reduced price.  IMHO, you won't go wrong with either model.  Enjoy your purchase.

I say go ahead and get one. It's a great tough light that throws like crazy with a good UI. It does have a tight beam so it may not please you if you like floody lights. It does look cool though.
