Why didn't they put that good file in the PS4? Would have been so much better... like the look of this one though :)

Andreas posted on the Leatherman facebook page claiming that they stole his idea.
His version did have a knife blade, the PS4 does not have a knife blade. Still Leatherman holds a patent on their tools for a reason.

After pointing out the basics of patent laws his post vanished. Guess he didn't wish to discuss it.

Many people  have suggested the Squirt P4/PS4 pliers on that since it came out. Don't think anyone has a claim on it. Still... he who holds the patent wins.

Unfortunately, patent law in America is a very broken system.  As it currently stands, it allows for designs that are too general and can encompass any range of 'similar' ideas.  This has created what's called the 'patent troll' industry; companies that do nothing more than patent any idea they can get away with, and then scan products on the market that use a similar idea, then sue that company for using "their" idea.

And unfortunately, because of the fact that big corporations control the supreme court and political system, I doubt these facts will change any time soon.

Yeah I agree, I am not a fan of the PS4 file, the Stlye CS file is better.

I liked the file on the Squirt S4 / Micra better myself. Thar file doesn't make for a great screwdriver anyhow. On my Style CS I filed it over to mimic the finger nail cleaner version ... cause I hates dirt/grease under my nails. /eww

I'm not so sure I want one of these anymore; not that it wouldn't be nice to have, but in general, a blade (even a small one like what's on the CS) is more useful to me than pliers.  I honestly just don't need the pliers all that much.  If I had my druthers, I'd have the PS without the file and a blade instead, like above.  Oh well.

Off to find a Leatherman PS. I got a Leatherman CS about 4 months ago because I liked the scissors however I also carry a knife so the CS knife never sees use. The PS would meet my needs perfectly. Do the pliers seem adequate to do light duty tasks, or are they flimsy?

Considering how inexpensive these are, I guess I'll pick one up.  Maybe I'll be able to swap out the file for the blade from CS.

I usually do carry another tool with a knife blade, or a dedicated folder, but sometimes I like to go light and have just what's on my keys, so a blade is nice to have.

Just got mine today. It took much longer than usual, perhaps due to summer vacations.

Regarding the tool itself, I find a little hard to pull the scissors out, but definitively really hard to get the tweezers. I had to use the pliers from the ps4 to get it out, in fact.

A problem I've found, not related with the tool itself, but with quality, is the rivet used to hold the black handle, near the tweezers exit, is loose, it doesn't fix (doesn't form a head on the other side). I'll try to post a picture later. Is there any manual process I can do to fix this?

I do love the fact that it can be carried on a airplane. I have a few reasons for disliking the PS. First off the pliers were wobbly right out of the box. It seems as if the rivet at the pivot point was not installed properly. The same goes for the scissors. The tweezers feel very thin and barely open and seems almost useless.

I actually received a response to another E-mail I wrote last night and was very pleased to hear that they would send me a replacement pair of Tweezers and I could send in my PS for warranty work if I would like. I refused sending it in as for the price that I paid for the tool plus shipping cost it would just not be worth it to me. I hope you love yours as it could be a great tool.  :tu:

I've had mine for a few weeks now but have to admit it's not seen a lot of use yet. :-[  None of the individual components were new to me (having a CS and a PS4) and I like them all well enough.  No QC issues with mine either. :)
