Mini-Tool pictures

So the first two of the three Mini -Tools I ordered arrived so I took some pictures for comparison purposes.

One was new and I assume it is a later model:

Compared to the used one, it has hard wire cutters, Leatherman stamped on the right instead of the left on the pliers head and it’s pliers open up a bit wider (i.e. improved pliers head).
New one shown on the left.

The pliers are similar in size to the PST pliers, seen here between the two Mini-Tools.

Size wise, when folded, they are a couple of mm thicker than the PST and longer than a micra.

The blade is similar in length, but a bit thicker, than the one on the Micra.

Not a mistake. As I understand it, the date codes get applied when the handles are blanked on the machine and from there they go into a parts bin. During assembly, handles are retrieved from the parts bin. So it is very possible that the date codes may not match for a given tool. Many do, but just and many don't from what I've seen.

Hi Folks, i found a NIB one of these at an outdoors retailer near me here but it seems very expensive, can anyone tell me the going rate for these BNIBin the UK or Ireland.

I'm not sure what the going rate for a Mini in your area is...?

Copilot, I assume that that is what happened. My totally new Mini tool has a date on only one handle and nothing on the other.

J-Sews, I did not know there was a black (tactical…

) one.
Funnily, I only wanted one, then got the second accidentally, by placing a low bid and the third one was part of a lot, with a CS4 I wanted….

Loose, I get mine from ebay US; there were several for sale during the last month from around $40, and up, depending on condition.

later model, with date codes, hard wire notch, and LEATHERMAN name and pat number:

early model, with no dates, no notch, and no LEATHERMAN on the handles (yes, the box is PINK!)

early early model, made for Hoffritz cutlery stores, has no LEATHERMAN on handles, and no USA on pliers

Great Minis everyone, they are truly an ingenious little thing!

I believe that if they got rid of the secondary extending handles and added some more tools (like the micra) it would have still been around. You would have lost some leverage, but most (real…

) men and ladies would have still been able to squeeze pretty hard; without worrying about breaking the pliers, like with a squirt. You are not going to use it for long, or toooooo hard, anyway

Hey, speaking of the Mini-Tool, here's an interesting tidbit:

On the original design there was an attempt to provide screwdriver functions! Check out the protrusions at the ends of the handles in this patent drawing. #58 was intended for phillips screws, and #54 for flatheads. Talk about your lack of ability to reach recessed screws!

I got my mini today. It's smaller than I thought but I like the size. I'm a mini kinda guy anyway. It has matching numbers in the handles. I will get some pics up soon.

I'm not sure there really is a 'going rate' over here, just not that common. I'd be far more tempted to look in the US for a reasonable price.

That's about right. On the eBay, they sometimes go a little higher. Usually $40-$50 used, and $50+ NIB.
And if I remember correctly, the last NIB BO one went for near $100.00.
