Tool reccomendation for friend
on: December 03, 2007, 03:47:14 AM
I have a friend Bill. He is a real outdoors person like I am. He wants to buy a multitool for camping, hiking, backpacking, edc, shooting, work- he's a carpenter, hunting, and tinkering with electronics. I reccomended the LM CORE. I showed him both my std. swisstool and the core. He said he liked the core better and he could not access the small tools on the ST:( He said he will over tommorow and look at my collection! Now I think of it I think I will reccomend a New Wave. 61.00 at wally world and its a good tool!

I also recommended Wave to a friend about a month ago. He is now very happy with his new Wave.

The Core sounds like a good option to me as well.  You could also mention the Spirit as this would be a little lighter and smaller to carry whilst hiking, but still be capable for anything he wanted it to do.

He couldnt access any of the tools because he doesn't have finger nails so the swisstools are out lol.

Just about everything I suggest gets ignored for cheaply made Asian products.

I love my SwissTools, but I agree that that the tools are tough to get at without fingernails.  I don't think Vic would consider easier access though, seeings as how they have the same fingernail nicks on all their equipment except the OHT variants.

Great job turning on someone new to multitools!

I too believe that the Wave would be a good first tool.  I really cannot think of any other tool that would be better for anyone that has a problem opening with a nail nick.

The Core is another good one for easy-access blades. (Haven't tried it, but I think I could open every blade and driver on it with my big toe.)  :P

In the ongoing SwissTool -vs- Leatherman Core debate, this big-toe-opening feature of the Core might be just enough to tip the balance..... ;)

Never realized before how sharp the edge of the awl was.  :o

By the way fellows, thanks for not mentioning anything about the serrated blade. The awl and the plain-edge were bad enough...no way would my toe feel safe around serrations!
