Besides the discontinued CX with carbon fiber, are all the spare bit holder pieces plastic? The stainless one looks like it could be metal? TIA!

No plastic bits on either of my Skeletools.

Pete

Joined the party! Decided to get a CX just for the straight edge 154cm blade. Modified the stock pocket clip by straightening it out, shortening it, and putting in new bends so it could be installed on the opposite end. Now the blade can be carried tip-up by preference. Sits at the perfect height for my jeans coin pocket.

Not going to lie, I'm pretty upset that my CX has a plastic spare bit holder in the handle instead of the discontinued carbon fiber. I really want it metal though. Do all the other color options have metal instead? The coyote tan is looking pretty good....

Aren't all the non- carbon fibre ones aluminium? Or did I just make that up somewhere along the line?

I wish. Took a magnet to mine to confirm it was plastic 😭

If it's aluminum then a magnet won't stick to that either

I just thought that after I posted lol mine is plastic, I can dig my nail into it and it was getting soft when I was heating a fastener.

Hey everyone sorry for the misinformation. For the sake of science, I scratched a small spot on my CX and confirmed it is in fact METAL. It was on Amazon where several people reported it being plastic. So you know I'm not crazy - check out the screenshot and pic. PHEW* I am really relieved to know it is metal! I thought it was plastic because the coating does get softer when heated. Really impressed with this tool now and feel better about it!

Looks metal on mine. I haven’t tried the low temperature test but the paint chip does make it look like metal.

My new Skeletool. I love this color combination and I am astonished about all the little details and thought that went into designing that tool. For example one of the corners of the bitholder’s locktab that would stick out is simply rounded a little not to make a hot spot. It is awesome. The pliers look rock solid no flexing of the jaws. Also the look very though for its size. For some reason mine became loose like a standard plier after opening like 50 times and now works really smoothly. That may be a rare feature. I am pleased with the clip it is stable. The only thing that worries me is the nylon washer. The one that is working under the blade itself. I read that it will get eaten over time. Do you guys know of a good replacement or solition to that?
I also love all the stamps on the tool. The Leatherman sign on the side of the tool, the cap lifter icon. The black and silver looks soo good! 😝 Appretiate the existense of a date stamp! However it is looking a little weird since the year stamp is bigger and the month stamp is much smaller. Anyway, I am happy about this tool.

That is a very nice looking Skeley, Mangyang :like: I think we had other members here replace the nylon washer with a copper one maybe  Hopefully it works well enough until you find something to replace it :tu:

G'Day,

I am ready to join the club... Again, as per MT.O standards.

I recently bought two Skele's. One brand new from an Ozzie collector. It is the white and black version. It came with a nice presentation box too. I'm not sure if it is a limited edition. Reading some of the info here it looks like the one used in the Tom Cruise movies. The other is a used one found in Tasmania. It looks like one of the original Skeletools with a PE blade. Interesting that it has no pocket clip. I only saw that today when I got it, I cannot remember seeing that on the sellers pics. I sent him a message, hopefully he removed it. I don't think that it was ever offered without a clip, I may be wrong. Skeletools was never my "first love". There are no washers or noticeable gap when I compare it to the other ones I have. I had to polish the blade a bit a sharpen it. It looks like somewhere in its history it have some questionable sharpening done. The blade was quite scratched too. Overall I'm very happy with it. It is quite comfortable without the clip. I might pop into Leatherman Oz when they open again and ask for a clip...

Now the pics,

Cheers, Pete

A quick update on the clip question I had, the owner removed it after it bent getting caught on some webbing. I'll use it like this for a while and see if I am going for a trip to Leatherman Oz.

Cheers, Pete

Another Skele Update

I read through the original Skeletool Review here on MT.O and found out that the clip is designed to be removable, similar to the Kick with a screw going into the main attachment screws. I'll pop into Leatherman Oz next week to see if I can get a new clip for it. I am also going to ask if I can get a screw similar to the one on the opposite side to where the clip mounts. That one is flat and if it goes into the same slot as the clip, the tool will lie flat when put down. A little OCD, you bet!!!

I'll post pics once I have the parts...

Pete

I picked up a new Skeletool...  "Carbon fiber" wasn't on the description anywhere, but it looks like it is.

I have no idea how to tell if it's carbon fiber or just looks like it. Whatever it might be, it looks really good!
