hi Seniors and Newbies alike..
my first discussion post (after the introductory thread)... to be in Skeletool owners Club...
pls do accept my sincere apology if my 1st post is a bit formal, as im aware of certain forum ettique (and pardon my english too)..

well, my 1st post and my old story of my 1st LM (apart from Vics).. .. a Skeletool (SS 1st), then comes the Red Rei version. Both were pre-owned, locally and from eb about a year ago..the Red has some paint nicks on them, and now kept in the holding bay...with other MTs...8-)

the frame design catches me, as its looks cool & futuristic and Skele SS is my bagged edc..
may need to get other colour too..thats the 'inner peace' to rein in the 'want'..

ps.. could not open the attached photo link, as im read/writing from mobile..

from a year on..im starting to get few Vics (sorry!) from Tim FVEAP , more LMs ... well thats another story....8-)

cheers..

I have the Skeletool CX with the serrated blade. It doesn't get much pocket time these days (my juice kf4 is my current edc), but it does stay clipped to my man bag, with leatherman's bit kit in the bag.

What it does lack in tools, it more than makes-up for in "cool factor"! I wish that Leatherman would add carbon fiber to all their tools!

I got one a couple of weeks ago so I am now in the “cool” group, init?

Impressions:

Cool terminator 1 look, especially when open at 90 degrees.

The blade is smaller than I expected. I was thinking it would have this huge blade, dominating the whole tool, but apart from its width it is similar to the blade of my juice, init?

The paint on the screwdriver bits is already wearing off, after being taken out a few times; not very impressive.

The pliers look a bit more robust than the juice ones.

The blade has to be opened quite fast to lock safely; otherwise the liner lock does not move enough to properly secure the blade.

The blade seems secure enough and its “backspring” is solid, unlike the similar style system.

I found the same thing with the black coating on the bits but I mist say I have been putting leatherman bits through a lot and haven't stripped one yet, and they bite nicely IMHO. I also hoped the blade would be bigger but I don't have the problem you are having with the liner lock. Mine clicks into place with no effort at all. Is yours the newer version as in PE on CX?

It is, I think, a standard skeletool, half serrated normal steel blade. 830948 product code.
I do not know if its an original or an improved version of the skeletool.

Sign me up.   I bought a Leatherman Skeletool packaged with Monarch 200 and Monarch 300 LED flashlights on clearance at Dick's Sporting Goods for $24.98.

I'm thinking of installing the 154CM straight blade from my Freestyle in place of the stock 420HC combination blade.

I have the CX model and use it everyday at work. This is the perfect tool for what I do (IT professional). I hope they never discontinue this tool. Pair this tool with the bit set and you're good to go. Ive had mine for a couple years now, and just last week had to sharpen the blade. The only thing I wish it had was a latch for the bit in the handle.

I dropped my skele on a cement floor yesterday from about 6' and the spare bit didn't budge. I figured I'd be moving kegs for an hour looking for my spare bit!  I rely on the skele as my backup multi way more than I initially thought.  The few things that it does it does really well, I have to say it's the best bottle opener I've ever used and it gets used since you don't have to open the tool to use it. It flashes out and back into my pocket without anyone seeing how I opened my beer. Also the wire cutters have been going through stranded Cat 5e cable with one snip, no chewing.  It's chassis is forever interesting to the eyes.

The Skeletool CX plain edge is my favourite multi tool of all time. I like it so much I am considering buying a Skeletool just so I have both even though I am not a collector. I can't believe the, in my view, unjust criticism this tool has received from some. Personally I can't see why anyone would carry a just a folding knife now when the Skeletool exists.
Plus it has the carabiner which is a great great feature when you're moving through difficult terrain and don't use sheaths. I can't say enough good things about it.

Count me in as well.

I love my skeletool cx, truly great piece of craftmanship from leatherman. I think there should be definitely more EDC friendly tools with fully functional blades (from some high quality steel)

Yes, the Skeletool seems to have a higher level of fit and finish compared to the other Leatherman tools I have experienced. I like 154cm but I think 420hc is a really good quality steel too. When I lost my first Skeletool CX a year ago I ordered another one instantly. It's my most carried knife for the last couple of years.

For the last month I 've been carrying the Charge but it's more of a square block of steel with a knife blade on it compared to the Skeletool.

Oooh .. a club!

When I first got the red Skeletool, I was afraid the finish wouldn't last. And I guess the jury's still out on whether or not it really will. But in the time I've been carrying it, all that there is to show for it is a couple small dings/scratches. So far, I'm impressed with the finish. But then, I haven't tried anything fancy like dropping it on concrete or something.

This is the tool that got me to move from carrying a knife in my pocket to an MT. No, the blade isn't quite as good as on the likes of a Benchmade. But for the vast majority of what I ask a blade to do during my (very nerdy) work week it's more than enough. And with this, I have pliers & a screwdriver on me too. The size, especially how thin it is, and weight are perfect.

Oh ... and the bottle opener works great! :tu:
