Underwater pictures

I took some pictures yesterday evening. It was a bit windy so the visibility was not very good. I have also included some from last year, from the same area.

These are taken close to some rocks, near the beach, so they do not have anything exotic in them. Hopefully I will be able to take some better ones later, in deeper and clearer waters.

I am also sure that people here, living at or visiting exotic locations, will have some much better ones to show.

If you don't want to take pictures at a depth of more than a few metres then you can do this at a reasonable cost.
Also useful for taking pictures when it is raining, taking pictures of friends and family (or that female/male swimmer you think is hot, but do not want to be seen taking a picture off

) in the sea, waterparks on boats etc.

I am using a Pentax WS80.

It is fine for snorkelling, swimming etc and works up to a depth of 1.5m.
It comes with a rechargeable battery.

At the time I was considering a similar Olympus but the reviews it had were not very good. I did not want to spend too much money (for eg. a Canon), but still wanted good quality pictures and a branded camera.

Because it is not designed for great depths the buttons are easy to use in and out of the water.
It is also quite thin and easily pocketable.

The picture quality is quite good underwater, but you notice the noise in pictures taken out of the water (compared to my other cameras). But then, I generally don’t use it out of the water, unless it is raining.

Cameras of this type have an extra glass, after the lens, to keep them waterproof (like a snorkelling mask) so quality suffers. However in the water, because the Refractive index of water and glass are similar the glass “disappears” and the picture quality is not really affected.

Here is a test with the similar, but a bit "tougher" W60 pentax.

OK, as promised some more, taken during one afternoon with better visibility.

Very popular fish; lots of them near the coast.

Busy, afternoon (busiest time is usually around midday)

A bit further away, different colour of sand here, more family oriented.

It has a lot of nice rocky areas close to the coast that are quite safe to explore, without any large waves or dangerous fish.
There also some more "advanced" areas to explore, away from the main beaches, if you feel confident.

The Greek islands offer oportunities for some really nice under/over water pictures.

To be honest, I was a bit distracted by the swimmers...

Then I noticed the name of the beach bar, had another look at the swimmers, then saw the little flag under your avatar, then a last glimpse of some more swimmers, and it all became clear...

I didn't know you were missing any

I saw a broken plate and a few weeks back, a tyre. I will keep an eye open for any metal parts, you can turn into knives

After the past few weeks I am tempted to get my spear gun or fishing rod out; too many fish, we need to control their population before they take over!!!

Really, if I had any sense I would have been concentrating on what was above the water, as shown in some of the pictures.

Testing the Xtar ~~D06~~ D02 at night a few hundred meters from the beach and made some videos; nothing great and I can not currently post longer or better video due to PC and bandwith limitations.
