Well we havent done one of these, and as it's now winter (for most of us) this is when an axe really starts to earn it's keep

So lets have some pictures and opinions gentleman

How well do you get on with the wetterling? the few I've used and handled, have had slightly twisted shafts and uneven bevels

the shaft I have is fine but many of the bevels need work, which is fine for me,
I have a belt sander and many belts. for the deal they are and the quality I like them a lot.

Speaking of axing a question, I've got one:

What's with all these tomahawks? They all look about the same. Do folks really use them, or are they just for show?

Primarily Tomahawks are weapons IMO, but are really useful outdoors working with wood.  They just have a diffrent feel than regular hand axes/hatchets...a lighter handle with more weight towards the head.

There are lots out there that don't have the spike on the reverse side of the head which are even more useful outdoors since you can baton with them.

I'm after a Fire-fighters style axe with the Hook on the reverse side of the head.

I think this will be my next axe purchase.  I have the Cold Steel shown above, and the SOG Fusion 'hawk has been tempting me too.

I use this 12 inch Estwing hatchet for smaller jobs and a full size, wooden handled Sears Craftsman axe for larger logs.

You really can't beat an Estwing with the leather handle.  Those things last forever.

My father has had one for over 30 years now, and the only things wrong with it are cosmetic.  Of course, a good axe like that doesn't get beat up, it gets character marks!

Here's most of what I currently use for chopping duty.  A Mastercraft hatchet that isn't great quality, but was inexpensive enough that if it falls off the side of my kayak I'm not too upset, a Vietnam Tomahawk and a Magnum Kukri, both from Cold Steel.  The 'hawk doesn't see much use these days, but it used to be my practice 'hawk when I used to study fighting techniques with different weapons.  It'll put a serious hurting on someone if you need to.  The kukri is a great compromise between a large knife and an axe, and I plan to put it to the test this summer.

I couldn't find my last one, my real workhorse, similar to this one, but not cheap garbage!

Funny you mention that type of axe...I got mine for $2 at a local discount/closeout store   I keep it in the trunk of my car...I used it Friday to split some planks at work for kindling!  Mine has a hard rubber handle, but others at the store had some kind of mystery wood slabs.

Mine has wood handles but I found them too slick for prolonged use or while wearing gloves so I summoned all my deepest Canadian instincts and wrapped the handle in hockey tape.

I got mine from Lee Valley Tools, and I love it.

I don't know if you still can , I've had mine for I don't know how long ,and I don't know where you could get one from, I bought mine (and the field knife) from the official UK glock importers, but since the pistol ban, I think glock pulled out of the UK completely.
