It's a pretty common scenario when people who have built their own fortune, like Tim Leatherman, are interviewed. 50% of the time you hear a quote like: "I decided that if no one wanted my idea, that I would build it myself..."

Related story: Shortly after I met my wife, I was introduced to her grandparents on her father's side. Her grandmother was her grandfather's second wife, and he was much older than her, 90 at the time (early 1980's). When we were talking cars, he told me a story from his childhood. He was sitting on the living room floor, playing with a wooden toy, while Henry Ford was there trying to talk his father into investing in his automobile company. 80 some years latter he could remember his father's words: "There is no way on earth that those things will replace a horse..."
