Different Coloured Alox Scales?
on: August 18, 2011, 02:56:24 PM
I recently bought a red alox Pioneer about a month ago or so ago.

The scales are different shades of red.  The front scale with the crest is what I would call the correct colour, however the black scale seems about two shades darker than the front.

Is this is a frequent occurence?

Obviously no effect on the knife, but it has me crazy flipping it over and over trying to see if they are different coloured haha

i tried taking some pictures, but My camera is not good enough to show the difference properly

There has been a dark red Farmer some time ago, maybe they used leftover scales on your Pioneer
You should seriously visit vicfan.com. All the hoopy froods are doing it.

I saw a couple pictures of those dark red farmers, even next to the regular red

it looks like that is what happened, half regular half dark red scales

Sounds like an error in scales. If it is from the factory that way. One scale red and one scale dark red. Keep it it's worth more.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

this is a long shot, but could it be that the anodizing process is relatively volatile (even under strict factory control), and does not reliably provide different red alox tones? I've noticed a lot of different red shades amongst my red alox knives.

I find Victorinox is VERY good at keeping their Alox colors matched and even across batches.  BUT some variations do occur as it's the nature of the process.  I rarely see one where the different sides are mismatched.

I agree that might be a bit of a collectable.  Is it an older Red one with the Swiss cross, or a nwerer one with the Vic Sheild?
