Gday from Sydney
on: September 15, 2011, 11:15:09 PM
Gday guys i have a 172 Gardener. I have cut the blade down, to about 2 inches with a sheeps foot / pry bar point. The other thing i have done to it, is sharpen the blade all the way to the handle. This is my favorite knife, i never go into the bush without it. Cheers Peter

+1

The description can only go so far, a few pics would be the best way to describe what you have done to the blade.

Thanks for the welcome guys, it's a very cool site. The knife in the above pic is my bush survival knife, i never go into the bush with out it. Because it's a survival knife, i don"t want to use it. Sort of like if you have a lighter in your survival kit, you don't use it. What this means is i need a new user knife :D. The Question is which SAK to buy, not to big for a pocket, med sized non serrated locking blade, saw, awl. Any suggestions would be more than welcome. Cheers Peter.

Welcome to the forum mate.  As to the SAK recommendation, if it wasn't for your wish to have a locking blade then I'd have said the Vic Farmer.  But if you have to have a locking blade then (thinking Victorinox here) you're going to jump up to the 111mm size and should be looking at the Forrester.

For a more pocket friendly Wenger then the S13 might suit you.

Love it, I file my SAKs into a sheepsfoot as well. Mine don't look as nice though. Nothing better than a nice short blade and a sturdy handle you can get your whole paw on.

Gday JackNate I 100% agree with you about sheep foot blades. I get to a spend alot of time, around alot of people trying to use knifes. I have had to duck tape, more than a few people up, because they have stab themselfs. Cheers Peter
