So what type of music does everyone listen to?

I am a music nut. I have both XM and Sirius satellite radio at work car and home (7 different accounts) I have a wide range of musical tastes. NO POP!! I do not like commercial radio.

I like jazz, both modern (fusion) and traditional, (Charlie Hunter, Galactic, Martin-Medeski & Wood, Miles Davis, Sex Mob, Brad Meldau, Keith Jarrett, Jazz Mandolin Project) NO smooth jazz

Progressive & Jam Band rock (Grateful Dead, Primus (any Les Claypool bands), King Crimson, Phish, Frank Zappa, Radiohead, Gov't Mule

Blues both old and new

Classical, most any

Cajun, Klezmer, World Music, and New Age

and my favorite artist of all time "Brian Eno"

You asked! I could go on and on.

I own over 1000 CD's and growing

I also like talk radio, mainly "The Ron & Fez Show" on XM Noon - 3pm EST

Country. Real country, not the new "pop" stuff. And some rock. AC/DC, Aerosmith, stuff like that. And Southern Rock. And ZZ Top. I LOVE ZZ Top.

How do you check all the options? :P

And what about the types that aren't listed?  I listen to just about everything...  but my preferences are old metal, hard rock, blues, jazz and classical.

hmmm, Motown & Stax, 'proper' hip hop (up to about 1993 :D), 60s & 70s soul, a bit of Supertramp & ELO, some UK Indie stuff, weird stuff with either an accordion or a Hammond on it, bluegrass, a bit of Bhangra before it went pop, some modern Garage & Jungle... Which option do I tick? :P

I primarily listen to classical music, including film scores (especially those by Ennio Morricone and John Barry). I PLAY British-influenced rock and blues with a smattering of jazz.

Last night I was playing a '53 Les Paul for a few minutes!   :D

We had a group called the Horsepower Blues Band play in our bar and the lead guitar player was mind numbingly great!  I was talking to him after the show, commenting in his playing and the beautiful Les Paul and the nice Mockingbird he had, so he whipped the Paul out o fthe case and had it wrapped around me so fast my head was spinning!

That was so painful I couldn't watch much of it, but then that is what Canadian rock looked like in the 70's, especially after the Guess Who broke up and Randy Bachman started Brave Belt!  Modern Canadian Rock looks more like this:

I really dig these guys, and I have ever since I caught them at a club in London- I hung out with them during set breaks before they made it big. Before they split up last year they were playing stadiums and the lead singer/guitar player, Geordie Johnson recorded a song with SRV's old band Double Trouble.  He's the long haired guy in the red shirt:

OMG, King Crimson. Just look at what Robert Fripp has done, basically 3 completely different bands in 3 different eras. Just freaking amazing!

I was always a Gibson man, but it's only been the last few years that I've started to appreciate the Les Paul.  My preference still goes to the Classic Flying V and the semi hollow EDS 335 though- BB and Albert can't be wrong!

If you like the Explorer shape but found it a bit big you should look into a Dean Hollywood Z which was my first guitar:

Diamond Darrel of Pantera and Damageplan was a huge Dean collector and enthusiast.  Until he came along, no one was really aware of them and so they could be had quite cheap when and where they could be found.  Of course once Darrel became a big name guitar player prices started going up and I am certain they're still up there now that he's gone.

That does look pretty sweet.  The headstock is pretty interesting to, it would look really good on a flying V as well.

By the way, getting back to the guy with the '53 Les Paul I mentioned, he also had a BC Rich Mockingbird which was pretty sweet.  I was talking with the sound guy Bruce (husband of the bar owner) at the bar last night about it.  He mentioned that he was the original owner of the BC Rich that the guy had brought and he told me a few interesting things about it.  It was an '83 which meant it was a neck through, made in California (modern BC Rich's are made in China) and it was signed on the back by Bob Ezrin and Alice Cooper.  Apparently, the band Bruce was in back then, Titan, was set to record an album that was to be produced by Bob Ezrin, but it never materialized for whatever reason.  But, while they were working on it, he got Bob Ezrin to sign his guitar, and Alice Cooper just happened to be there as well, as Alice Cooper and Bob Ezrin are pretty tight.

Unfortunately about eight years ago Bruce was forced to sell the guitar, which is how this other guy ended up with it.  He is a great guy though, and told Bruce that if he ever decided to sell it, Bruce got first dibs on it.

Nowadays Bruce plays a really sweet Gretsch with a factory installed Bigsby, which I drool over every time I see it!

Great story that.  :)

The wife bought me a minature model of a BC Rich that one of the guitarists (number 7) in Slipknot plays. I think it is called a Warlock and is a pretty unique shape.

I love the Les Paul Jr styling, not too keen on the normal Les Paul it always just seemed a bit too showy for me. This is the same model as my guitar expect mine has a natural finish not the green.

I like listening to music.  I usually wear my I-pod when shooting underneath my ear protection, or when I am riding my mountain bike.  I am not much for guitars because I lack musical talent.  I could play the piano pretty well though.  Those strings I just cannot grasp. :ahhh

I've tried to play several instruments. TOTAL lack of talent. I guess one of the reasons I love music so much is I know how hard it is to play an instrument. I have great admiration for anyone who can play, not just those who do it for a living.

On the subject of Pauls, I had a cool 1968 Les Paul Custom. I traded my ES335 for it because the 335's size made me look like a kid and just wasn't cool enough. Man, though that Paul was nice, the 335 would eat it alive, neck and tone-wise. Since I'm a David Gilmour fan,  I got rid of the Paul for $300 US (please, no wisecracks here) and went Fender. I swear, though they can be really homely guitars, a Telecaster will spoil you! Regards, Bill.

I wish I had a picture of my first guitar... It was a Yakima Flying V... but looked like a flying check mark :D

I've had a few different ones since then.  I really like that Dean Hollywood Z... but then I like Dean guitars in general.  (I've got a Q4 electric bass and a Playmate EAB acoustic/electric bass...)
