(Repost from Latest SAK)

Here's an interesting Wenger. Its a rare version of the Backpacker/Classic 13, with a flat phillips sd in place of the nail file. Its number is 1.13.23. Names in my notes include Classic 13 and Mountain (a generic series term). Probably will call it a Classic 13 variant. Even more interesting in the logo. In place of the Wenger Swiss Cross, there's an outline of Saudi Arabia bordered by the Red Sea and Persian Gulf. Three dots probably represent Ad Damman, Riyadh, and Mecca. Suspect this is the Wenger version of the 'V & globe' logo used by Victorinox for sale in Saudi Arabia.

Interesting find, congratulations!
I have seen at least two Wengers (1.28.03/champ) with a Turkish flag instead of the cross on the shield.
So I think that Wenger made probably some specific no-cross variants for single states.

Sorry, I realize now that I should have added something to my previous message.
Apart from the missing cross in the shield, the knife above can be found in the wiki under the Classic 132 page.
http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Wenger+Classic+132
While I was updating the wiki, some time ago, with the Classic line, I found something quite strange.
The same knife had actually two different names, Classic 13 and Classic 132.
And, as a result, a knife with the same name, Classic 13, had actually different implements.

Few pictures to better explain:
Classic 13, same name but different implements

Classic 132 (tecnically this name was used only for the recent model, without the Backpacker imprint)

Note that the Classic 13 on the first picture (top left) is the same as the Classic 132 on the second picture (on the right).

The knife shown by Karl is on the left of this last picture.
I personally would consider model 1.13.23 more a Classic 132 "variant", because of the 2d phillips. However this is not 100% correct as this is a name which was used only years later, when the Backpacker imprint were already replace by the footprint image.
Confusing, eh? :D

Suggest we go with Classic 13 for the version with the nail file, and Classic 132 for the version with the flat phillips. Include a note that the 132 was originally 13. This way we can keep them separate.

Stumbled upon this big Wenger display knife. I have a Victorinox just like it but I think this Wenger one is a bit more uncommon :)

You should seriously visit vicfan.com. All the hoopy froods are doing it.

Small compared to the other tools, yes, but it still fits bottles like this one:

By the way, that Wenger is not mine, it's still listed on eBay.

Bought this for $ 5.99 on ebay.
It is the "Papillon with Packlock" cat. 16915 shown on the NA 1982 catalog (page 11).

Agreed.

I wanted to say it looks like an early 80s on judging by the reamer and then saw the catalog reference. :D

I'm guessing the bottle opener is non-locking?

So probably a later edition? I thought this feature was added mid 80s, '84 or so

Yes,
we have two North America catalogs on the wiki: the 1982 (or 1983) and the 1990 (which does not list this knife).
So my model was probably produced in this time frame (mid 80's but before 1990).

I like when the seller mistakes the Wenger logo for a fake-Victorinox logo, and sells it to you for the price of a cheap knock-off.

That is what rekindeled my SAK love in the early 2000's.  At our local flea market, I found a Wenger commander in the dollar bin amid a bunch of cheap knockoffs.

Now I have nearly 30 saks.  I gave the commander to my brother and he keeps it on his keys.

A few weeks ago, i bought me a Original Wenger Evogrip S 557, and i like it:
You get a locket Blade in the Formfaktor of a Swiss Army Knife,
By Victorinox, you get this only on the Big, Pant Pocket Unfriendly 111er Serie..

The Evogrip Scales feel good, and there are a good collektion of tools,
Ditnt tryd the Can Opener yet, but the Bottle Opener..
I pimped it whit the tiny Scewdriver from a 111er Workchamp , which get drilled in the corkscrew.. and a Pocket Clip for the Keyring

The only bad thing is the Opening for the Philips Screwdriver which only works, if you first open the Scissor and the Plier...

Also a nice features which i ditnt had on a Victorinox: you can easely close the Knife whit one Hand...
And as you cant open it whit one hand, you can carry it whitout fear hear in Germany :)

Its Red, its Smal, and it has the Swiss Cross on it, so its a swiss pocket knife :)

I know, Victorinox also have this knife now, as Delemont Collektion, but i have the Original Wenger now..
Your SAK is only fully yours, when it bites you, or you opend a Trink of your joice whit it
SAKs i have: Huntsman Light (Red Transparent), Workchamp (Black), Wenger EvoGrip S557 (Red), Swisschamp XLT (Red Transparent).. Swisschamp (Blue Transparent) Cybertool L (Blue Celidor (custom scales) , Huntsman (Black Celidor) , Victorinox EvoGrip S557 (Red, but sadly lost in my house somewhere) Victorinox Delemont S17 and S57 ..  , waiting for: Swiza D09 Blue

Lots of cleaning, buffing, one new-ish scale modded to fit (thanks Thomas/lowtech), one original scale, I filled the bail hole in to make it appear riveted just on that one side  :)
Nice feeling to bring an old knife back to the land of the living from the scrap bin. Will make an excellent EDC.

Large blade/nail file/cleaner.
Scissors.
Saw.
Mag glass/small screwdriver.
Dog-leg can opener/Bottle opener/Large screwdriver.
Awl and Phillips on the back.
Toothpick/Tweezers in the scales.

Seems a little strange. I can open the Philips and Universal Wrench on my s557 without opening anything else at all.
