I’m a Wenger Collector.  My family came from Switzerland and there are Wenger’s in my family tree.  Gerber’s too, for what it’s worth.

Looks like someone can score us some free SAKs!

Also on topic. A Wenger was one of my first SAKs back in 2014 along with a Explorer and Pioneer.

Haven’t seen it in a few years and assumed it was lost.

Last night my daughter was opening some toys and need a knife. Before I could pull out the trusty Swisschamp my wife says “Just use mine”.

Out of her bedside table she whips out my long lost Wenger! Guess she had had it there for a good number of years and no I will not be getting it back.

Here is an old picture of it to tide us over till I can sneak it out for some fresh pictures.

The Wenger was my first SAK. I think it was about 25 years ago. And thanks to SAKWiki I found the model that I starded with .  It was the Commander snife with Zebra scales. I had in my mind that it was some tiger stripes, but it wasn't.
(Image removed from quote.)
I think this is one of my favourite coloured scales that I own.

Getting back into the SAK world after several years absence.  I have mostly Vics, mainly because that's what I knew, and that's what was there.  But I do have a few Wengers - older models.  I prefer the older models of both makers, older the better, and have developed a distinct preference for the 84mm Vics and the 82mm Wengers.   Have my eye on a couple now, but not sure if I'll pull the trigger on any of them.  Wallet has gotten a lot slimmer since retirement a few years ago.  Also waiting for my copy of Dave's book (thanks Dave!), which will make my Wenger hunts either easier, or harder (might open more doors than I can handle!).

I don't really find any significant difference in quality btw Vic & Wenger... maybe Wenger not quite as tight a back spring??  But I only have a few to compare.  And they are all pretty old - '60s or older.
Planning to stick around though, now that I'm back.
Trying to attach a photo.  Not working... :(

Welcome back to SAK world central - Dave’s book is a great source of info, and you’ll find we’re all good enablers ro7nd here!  When uploading/attaching a photo, make sure it’s less than 500kb or else it won’t attach.

I'm developing a love for Wenger models, mainly 85mm.
Unfortunately it seems there aren't many for sale in UK-friendly places. I've seen dozens on Etsy and eBay (US and Switzerland), but none of them will ship to the UK.

Thanks Rizio.  Going to try again.  I'm wondering if being on Safari might be a problem.  Lately FB messenger doesn't like Safari either...  So here goes..
Nope.. Still not working in Firefox either...   "[ Attachment has not been uploaded yet ]"   This is the result.  The jpg is only 300 kb, so that isn't the problem.  Just doesn't seem to want to upload.
Tried a .doc file.  No joy there either.  Is it because I'm "new"?
Well there it is!!  Says in preview that it hasn't been uploaded yet, but...

Thank you.  I have a couple of alox soldiers as well, but other than that, this is pretty much the extent of the Wenger... so far!
That little 82mm has had it's main blade over-sharpened nearly to death, but it's still a nice little knife.  The little Cellidor is the Vic/Wenger hybrid Premier, so it lives in both worlds.

Love ‘em quaydvt, really nice collection

It’s much easier to get photos to work in the Tapatalk app, but then you miss out on the emojis, challenge badges and other goodies of the website version

I use a mix of both website and Tapatalk for the best experience

I'm drooling over that Cyclist 🤤🤤

I just picked up a Small Mountain Bike the other day, and I just adore the uniqueness of this SAK. It's like a bike multitool and a SAK have a baby🤣🤣🤣 but on a serious note, I can also see why it's obsolete.

Thanks, y'awl! :hatsoff:

Any plans to further expand the Wenger collection?
Definitely. I like the Wengers with scale art, such as on my Backpacker II. However, I'd want to find nice unused examples with their boxes and paperwork. I'd awlso like to get at least one or two of the 120mm and/or 130mm models, as well as more Patriots. An Apprentice or a Highlander will most likely be my next one.

I was 100% correct!

And here's the part where I'd best don my fire-fighting ensemble...

Last night I needed to open a can of beans to go with dinner. That presented a perfect opportunity to test out a Wenger can opener. Note how cleanly it cuts. Of all the multi-tool can openers I've tested, it is my favorite. I can see that eventually I'll have a slim Wenger that's dedicated to can opening duty.
