World Scouting went to that ugly purple color a few years back for various PC reasons. Most national Scouting programs stayed with red, with the occasional blue, green or black.

Swiss (top), Hungarian, Irish, Dutch, British, Canadian, Australian.

PC reasons? Can you elaborate for us non connoisseurs a bit?

Interesting about purple being perceived as ugly (personal taste, the color of this SAK does not appear ugly to me).

"In the ancient world, purple was the color worn by Roman Emperors and magistrates, and later by Roman Catholic bishops. Since that time, purple has been commonly associated with royalty and piety."

Hi Marius,
My understanding is they went with a color not used by any country or group in order not to offend anyone. Most countries continue to get along just fine with the traditional Swiss Army red. Tastes obviously differ; I think its ugly. My personal feeling is they should have gone with international orange or florescent yellow. No political connotations, and makes the knife easy to find if dropped in the weeds.

Back in the 1970s there was a pop pyschology test called the Luscher Color Test, that was supposed to provide a quick assessment of peoples' personalities. My two favorite colors were blue and white; the two I hated most were green and purple.  :D

You did not write that you personally do not like purple (which is completely fine), you wrote, quote: "that ugly purple color" :D

That test it is still available today.

I noticed on two older Rangers - the 1991 knife got a different cut
Not the best picture still easy to see. On the bottom one you see the more modern and also more developed, by this i mean it is thinner towards the backside. Closer to the tang it is thinner and at the point thicker. The top one does not have this(atleast much less), it is sharp and will cut.

Nice pic Joel! :tu:, glad to hear it arrived safe and sound. IMO it's one of the cool looking SAK by Wenger and for its Titanium scales. :)

I do wish Wengers product development and new ideas will continue separate. This i have doubts, researching both Brands one get a greater understanding of the two philosphies. And the more correct history. The gentleman agreement made an impression, i do understand many can not distinguish the two Brands product. Both got a Swiss product.

It is easy to respect both Brands and i do not know what is best, maybe we will see some fantastic products in the years to come. So far i have not heard so much news, only that 2/3s will be made after 2014 with new stamp.

I like both and they have been very helpful and true with me, still questions can be difficult to get answers for since it is alot of work.

If i should say how i feel - they are very different knives, really can not be called the same,  but two different SAKs

That is one of the online articles I found that had those dates I mentioned on this thread about Wengers back in 2009.
