http://www.sosakonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=451&Itemid=35It's a Wenger Heritage Reissue Knife, originally worth about $500, so I'd take it for $420.
1893 is the year they started producing the knife for the military, and so the number of knives was limited to 1893. If this one is marked 1776/1893 then it is number one thousand, seven hundred and seventy six out of a run of 1893- the 1776 isn't a year in this case, although I can see how it might appeal to a US member since 1776 was the year of American Independance.
As for the set itself, it is done very nicely, along with a copy of the original hand drawn plans for the knife, and you can see where notes were added to it. It's really well done. The box is top notch with real wood and leather put together with typical Swiss care. All in all, a very nice collectible, and the knife is completely functional if you felt the need to carry it.
