New use for tweezers :)
on: November 29, 2011, 04:25:45 PM

I needed to get into my cashbox today and couldn't find the key... no problem :)

Video is unlisted so only people with the link can see it, don't really want to advertise that this is possible!.

It's only a cheap lock, one or possibly two levers, I can't tell. I had to slide the first tweezers under the lid to use as a torsion wrench as the tweezers are too thick to have two sets in the lock at once.

I think it would only work for cheap locks ;) Worth a try though!

Actually on the first successful attempt I used a leatherman squirt to bend a paperclip into a zig-zag and used that to rake the lock in conjunction with the tweezers. But it's easier just with two sets of tweezers.

The trickiest part is getting the torsion wrench applied (or finding a cheaty way around it as in my case). If the lid was tighter or the lock acted in an inaccessible place, then this wouldn't have been possible.

Neat trick.  Did the tweezers survive or are they a bit bashed up now?
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I've done a little bit of light lock-picking before, but never tried with tweezers.  I'll need to give it a go sometime. :tu:

Very good :tu: I've used a Wave can opener to open a rather basic lock on a filling cabinet, little bit of jiggling and job done.

So in addition to carrying a deadly weapon we're now also carrying burglary tools.  >:D

I do wonder sometimes if we'd get nicked for "going equipped" if searched in the wrong place at the wrong time ;)

Don't know about the UK but here it would probably depend on the circumstances. I was once talking with a policeman back in Virginia. He said if they stopped you for speeding and you were carrying a Buck Folding Hunter they'd probably ignore it. If they busted you for beating your wife and you had a Classic on you they'd probably add carrying a deadly weapon to the charges.

That's why I always take my keys out of my pocket before beating my wife  :tu:
