Powerlock Tool Covers
on: January 08, 2008, 03:05:18 AM
While oiling my Powerlock today, I started wondering, as is my wont...

Do you SOG carriers tend to keep the hinged tool covers on the tool, or do you remove the covers for everyday use?

Regards, Bill.

I personally just take them off. They make the tool access twice as long!

I keep them on so I can curse at them all the time.

I hate them but I hate hurting my hand even more.   >:(

I keep mine on so it's comfortable when I really clamp down on something.  The extra 3 seconds of opening them and closing them is worth it.

I leave them on, even though they are a (minor) annoyance.
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

I have taken them off both the Powerlock and Paladin tools that I have.  All the years that I used a Supertool I never once wished that it had friendlier handles.  Besides, with the increased force on the pliers you don't have a problem anyway.  I think that the exposed gear teeth are a much bigger problem when using a Phillips driver for example.  Paladin solved that with their take on the Powerlock.

I removed the covers and have kept them off.

I loosened the PowerLock's bolts holding the individual tools and they don't clump nearly as much as before.  Adjust to suit.

Thanks. I agree I'd carry my SOG more if it weren't for the exposed gears. I understand from a post on this site that SOG is covering the gears now. It's not only that they poke a bit, I just hate how they look, to be absolutely honest. I do love the SOG quality, though. The tool covers are a neat idea, I just haven't carried the SOG so I wondered whether those who carried them tended to use the covers or not. Regards to all, Bill.

I like the exposed look, but the gear covers will make the powerlock far more user friendly IMO.

I'm keeping the covers on mine,I don't think I'd be in such a hurry to lose a couple seconds flipping the cover.I'm also probably one of the few doesn't mind clumping..big hands, and big fingers need every advantage they can get.
