Hi guys,
Just found this forum and have decided to get back into making things with paracord. I used to make dog leads and collars while serving in Bosnia in the 90's with the Royal Engineers and paracord was in abundance... as long as the only colours you wanted were olive green and black and white. Nice to see plenty more colours and the wide range of projects I've seen on here is very inspiring. I'll post some pictures up as and when I'm finished making stuff.
One question... where can I source the smaller diameter cord from? Stormdrane has used 1.4mm but I can't seem to find any? I think it looks good when stitched in to lanyards and bracelets etc.
Thanks guys and keep up the good work!

Andy, here are a few sources for smaller diameter cordage that I keep in my blog's links list(in no particular order):

R&W Rope
GPJ Rope
ebay
FixMyBlinds
Supply Captain
County Comm
Atwood Rope

Prices on cost per foot and shipping/handling will vary, so shop around... ;)

Are there any places to get custom lanyards made?
I don't have the time or peace to try and learn to make one. Wanting one to attach to my Climber that's not too big around and looks good.
Would also want it long enough to carry in a pocket while the other end could be attached to a key ring. Having a split ring or some for of attachment on he end, & a loop attachment on the other.

Don't want fancy, but don't want the same ol' thing everyone else makes. Of the places that have done business with in the past keep cloning the same thing. All I see are short weaved lanyards with long loops, and dangles. Blek.

Reckon functional & sexy has a higher price too.  :D   Might have to look around and try and find something simple to weave that doesn't take too much dexterity & specific tools. Want simple, functional, and sexy.

The part I fear (past unraveling) is the finishing knot(s). I had adapted a watchband version that was attached to unsafe stainless steel screw clasp to a nylon buckle. The finishing knots were the size of hazel nuts. So rather get an expert to make it.  :ahhh

Neat idea! Easy to get that clasp off if needed in a hurry?

Once had one of them wrist jobbers with a stainless steel clasp, and almost had to cut the band to get my hard free when working on a washer. Stupid screw was on the other side and the stainless steel buckle got caught between some metal.
The next one I ordered from another company as they had the quick release plastic buckles. I like these colors, got it from Para-cord a bit over a year ago. Wished had a rattlesnake lanyard from that woodland camo cord.

Just a regular cobra with an S Biner type closure.

Anyone in the US make a rattlesnake lanyard in woodland camouflage?  Not sure what the shipping prices are from the UK for one, so was trying to locate a more local crafter. Not into skull beads.

Done asked. She says she don't know the rattlesnake knot yet.  :(

Wonder if there is a paracord color that's outback sand colored?   :o  Like that sand color on my avatar's picture.

Edit: Seen this Leopard Camo (color) one on eBay, but not the type of knot was wanting.

Only had black, or that horrid Home Depot junk. Took some tries, going back when I lost track, till I got the rhythm. Keeping it tight was another story. Once I got to a set size had went back to tighten with the Climber's hook till there was enough slack. Guess it is good enough for the first try. Will finish it off with a friendship knot - too bad couldn't tuck the end of that through to made a double end. - Baby steps.  :D  Also grabbed the pliers from the S557 that this lanyard is going to attach to.
Will have to do till I find some more colorful paracord to work with.

Interesting knot, but a few tries and rewinds I got it. Back leg, wrap, tuck under to left leg, wrap, then middle, wrap - repeat. That was what was getting me. No bead to stick up top yet, though I did have an aluminum collar around here. Think I have some silky oak scraps I could fancy a bead out of. Perty happy that I got it. Sorry for being windy.  :D

I believe I have some of that color maybe in my scrap box. If you want I'll look into the rattlesnake knot asap and let you know. I've been wanting to learn it but I've been so busy. I work 5 days a week, sell at gun shows on weekends so limited free time. I also have a couple other projects people have ask about.

Ashley, no hurry at all, really. Just like to support the local talent rather than end up hog-tying my thumbs.  :D  You sent a couple of PMs in the past so why I had asked, as didn't see a rattlesnake version. Wanted a thicker and less common lanyard was all.

I threw one together between projects. The bottom side, where the cord continues, not sure it is supposed to look like that. As such I tossed in a ABOK 782 in there to keep the stands together. Looks better than the lanyard/friendship knot that I had in there.
Could not find a knot to tie the gate hook on with, so improvised with what I think is a square knot. Is better than what I was using beforehand.

Have something that works for now. Lacking the talent for uniform fit and looks, but open to suggestions and critique on this one I put together tonight. Edit: Added a photo of the cord end that bothers me; does it look right?

Carved one Australian silky oak bead, the other one broke. Was looking at the paracord and thought, hmm... add a bead on each segment. But I dunno, what do you folks think? Or putting the bead between the rattlesnake knot & the ABOK 782??

Is that one of them Indian ball knockers that you move up and down and makes clapping sounds? Hey, you know... there are those musical balls that Asians, and others into holistic healing, would move around their hands and made music. If there were some small enough you could make musical monkey ball lanyards.  :D

Chinese Exercise balls, musical balls, or boading balls. Thought I would throw that in there.   :pommel:

Hi All,

Does anyone have a step through of making these? A link to a website or such would be great.

Also I'm looking for instructions on how to make a lanyard for my ID badge with around 4" of weave above the connector then back to a single loop to go over my head. Again a link would be great.

Searching for these items is a nightmare as I dont know what there actually called and google brings up trillions of results!

Cheers,

Andy

Nice photo Andy  :D

The red knot under the loop is a matthew walker knot ( two strand) see here - http://www.atwoodknives.com/home/16390018.php

See here for how to make the box weave http://www.lighthound.com/Square-Weave-Paracord-Lanyard_ep_40-1.html

for the knot at the end google "completion stitch" or see here - http://www.boondoggleman.com/prj_completion.htm

The ones above were made short as the customer wanted them for zip pulls.

Hope that helps

Was multitasking again, and altered the rattlesnake & ABOK 782 knot lanyard from my previous attempt.

Had backed out one end, tucked it under, and my heart skipped a beat when I lost a link. Put the silky oak wooden bead between the the two knots, which I personally think looks a lot better. Finished the lanyard off with a gated snap with a version of the ABOK 782 (close enough) and tucking the two ends out through the same loop. Singed, and used my Zippo to cold press the melted ends down.

  What do you think??

  One side of the lanyard

Other side of the same lanyard

Just redone the same lanyard has posted above. Lanyard is slightly shorter... as I have a time adjusting the positioning of the knots. If had more cord would of done another ABOK 782 in the slack space before finishing off the lanyard. Then it would have looked better, and still be long enough as a workable safety lanyard - usable while still snapped to the keyring or another contact point.
