Two old pocketknives - Can anyone tell me anything?
on: December 10, 2011, 09:30:22 PM
I have these two vintage sterling silver pocket knives that were my grandfathers and I am curious if anyone can tell me anything about them.

Here are the two knives.

Knife 1 open

Knife 1 closeup of name on knife, it might say "Grifford Germany" ?

Knife 2 open

Knife 2 closeup of name on knife, it says "VOOS Stainless"

If anyone has any information about these knives I would be very interested in hearing about them otherwise I hope you all enjoy seeing them.

Nothing specific since there were so many makers but the style looks like early 20th century. Teens maybe. Bladeforums has and early knife id forum that would help you

Looks like stainless tools, which dates them after the early 1920s; early stainless steel, especially German, was high in chromium and was especially slick/shiny and these don't look like that so I would guess after 1930.
Emil VOOS was a cutlery in Solingen from 1919 - 1981.

How do I qualify to modify my posts?
A better date for the early slick high-chromium German stainless steel would be 19-teens.

You can only modify your post for the first 10 minutes I believe. After that a moderator will have to do it for you.

I think we are both saying teens on those. Are they marked sterling?
