My Dad's 1996 Micra
on: December 18, 2011, 04:34:50 AM
I just wanted to post a sentimental note that i traded my dad his Micra for a brand new one. His has sat next to him on his tv stand since i bought it for him the first year they were made in 1996. More than that though, is the sentimental part of him as he's getting on in years. I'm nearly 47. Anyway, not sure he needed the new one as this cleaned, oiled and sharpened up to near perfect:)

I have my Grandfather's PST that he bought in 98.  He literally never used it but since he is in his late 80's with signs of Alzheimers I am glad I have it.  He and my grandmother just moved to florida to live with her sisters for all their remaining years.  I choke up to say this but it is entirely possible that I will never see him again.

Glad you got a piece of your Dad now Accujohn, it's important.

Cool stuff guys.  This has just reminded me that I've not seen my Dad's PST (still in his possession AFAIK) for years.  I'm thinking it must date back to the mid 90's as he had it when I was still living at home.  Ironically, given that I'm now a mod here, I really didn't give it much of a second glance at the time. :-[

I'm happy to report though that I know he gets a lot of use out of the Vic Mechanic with stayglow scales I gave him a few years ago, you can tell by all the grease covering the thing. ::) :D

My dad has really no concept of what "taking care" of a watch or tool is about. To be honest, i wish i had a little more of that carefree user attitude myself. After any serious job, my favorite tools are treated not much different than an Apollo astronaut returning from the moon. :)

I do the same thing, I keep my stuff pristine, even my hard users.
