The leatherman fairies visited me again today to drop off a new rebar. It looks a little grubby due to the black oily stuff that always is on new BO tools.
I don't know whether to clean it up before condemning it to the cupboard of doom.

I would like to leave the black oil on as I like to store my collection mint as new and this oil will demonstrate this fact but worried if left on may eventually stain the coyote finish, so may be prudent to remove.
Anyone have any view either way?

My trouble is i never show initiative, but that's only because no one has told me to.

Most types of lubricant, including motor oil, will not harm the coyote finish but I will clean the outside just in case to avoid stains and leave the tools inside with oil  ;)

The black grit is the Black Oxide dust from final sharpening.

You do want to clean that grit and dust from the tool.

I am not keen on the motor oil idea, some oils do have additives that will not harm the tool or finish, but can harm the storage box you store your baby.

Simple mineral oil is a good choice, cleans up well, no Oder, no harm to food or containers.

Congrats on the Coyote Brown Rebar.  If wanting the SS version, may want to consider the Heritage version for the retro sheath.
