Hmmmm...  good point.  It's interesting how there's a "Edged Tool" forum in the "Non-Tool Forums" too, isn't it?  It seems contradictory to me.  They're tools, yet they're not tools at the same time.

You did not care for the Edgeco Mike ? I thought that it had some useful innovations . The pull out double duty blade that could be used as a knife . Some what ulu shaped but still very functional . Something I forgot to mention and the pics did not make clear was approximately 1/4 to 1/3  of the blade on one side is a saw . Not real aggressive but functional . The way that the handle breaks down to become handles for the cable saw was a good idea I thought though if I were to take  it in the field I would replace the cable saw they supplied with a more aggressive one .

I'm sure it's a fine tool, I just prefer my fixed blades and axe's too be as simple and functional as possible, I just feel that if you introduce to many feature's your going to compromise the strength, and safety of the design.

Of course if you wana send it to me free of charge, for long term testing...

Funny that you mentioned that--I started discussing this with the other mods just before you posted.  I'm sure we'll come up with something that makes a bit more sense.  Of course, if it's going to make more sense, we may have to ignore micky_d's suggestions.

I tell you what you've got some very interesting tools there mate , particularly the S&S Arms one, that really does look a useful bush tool

That Paratrax looks like handful. How big is it from end to end?

The Edgeco is my favorite - looks like a fair amount of machining went into it - I can really appreciate that.

Another thing: I would not want to be in a fight with a man holding that removable ax head in his fist!

With that Xtreme Xnife Xith Xtra Xs Xor Xportz Xction, or whatever the marketing department came up with - I'd probably find myself using the knife in the handle more often than the main Attraction (Unless I wanted to kill a kangaroo or something  )


As to that Dismantlo-Axe - On the off chance you wanted to rock the Thug Life thing, why wouldn't you leave the handle is to use as a baton?

Pretty much, but it is a bit of a handfull, and as I've said before not everyone's a fan , I think if it was paired with a smaller utility knife it, would be pretty cool, as it's a good weight for chopping, while still being pretty small and compact

It is a great feature on a bigger knife, the Nepalese have been doing it for donkey's years on there Kukri's, but the rest of the world has yet to catch up

I would dearly love to get hold of one of those , previously I'd only seen them in conjunction with spetnaz, I didn't realise there use was so widespread

As for the hole's I'm sure they hold some purpose but they would serve as lashing points, and a heliograph, plus they would reduse the weight a bit too, also I know that they made a full tang one later, but I have no idea how common they are

While the construction may be poor, and the design not thoroughly planned to the end, it is kinda clever - Perhaps not clever enough to be put to market, but at least worth a few minutes in front of the blackboard in the Ideas Room.

I'm glad they exsist (to inspire others into making a better tool ) but I wouldn't but myself in the poor house to collect the set

If nothing else Doug, I appreciate the pictures of assorted doodads you have put together and shared here!  Some of those smaller ones, like the SAK-type one seem to be completely useless though except maybe for the novelty/promotions type market.  Were these actually intended for use, or just as little keepsakes?
