It was used by various people for most of the night. Definitely a good product, bright, no noticeable PWM, great in the hand, grippy, cheap, long battery life. I will post a bit more soon.

Any more of them on BLF or already sold out? I saw something like 2k mentioned in the preorder page but the link there is dead.

I got it from the linked site. I think the site, chinaqualitygoods, is down for maintenance. There should be some left. Wallbuys has the original on special but the blf one has better/different specifications.

Got it for $5.00.  :tu:  There was another Captain in not as good shape (didn't look at price) and another old light that I didn't get a good look at, but it was $12. I might go back and get the others and look at doing a LED upgrade to the other Captain as to make it a user.

I did a quick LED drop-in upgrade to my US Army MX-991/U shortly after I got it, and it was a great move IMO.  Made it a much more effective light for an extra $5.  It's a 30 lumen bulb, but there's no contest between it and the original bulb.  :tu:

Not a bad little steal, another one my grandfather had was very similar but in a brass/gold finish. As JD said I'd do a upgrade, he even had me thinking of doing the same with the military flashlight with a led, not that I need it but think it's cool as heck! JR

Fenix PD32 6 mode this is my first non AA/AAA light.  I believe the specs are http://www.fenixlight.com/ProductMore.aspx?id=82&tid=9&cid=1#.U6wwHShiF3k
which is the brightest light I currently own.  It was a fleamarket find that didn't have batteries so at $6 it wasn't much of risk.  I got batteries and it fired right up which was awesome.  I'll now have to get a 18650  and step into the world of Li-ion batteries.

I have two of them.  They're incredible.  Great output level spacing from moonlight to 1480 lumens, fantastic throw, and one of the most versatile lights I've ever owned when paired with an Olight M-22X diffuser.  The UI is nearly perfect for me; with moonlight, max and strobe available directly from off, mode memory, and hidden "blinky" modes.

...and powered by 4x Eneloops? Outstanding!

Shipping and customs fees would kill me. Almost $80 on top of the base US price. :-\

Yeah, it looks like Vinh up-charges $15 for international shipping...

The D40A is an excellent flashlight on its own merit.  One of mine I bought as a stock neutral before I sent it to Vinh, so I could compare the two.  The main difference between the modified light and the stock model is that Vinh's has about 2x the throw, due to the current boost and dedome.

Its definitely the brightest light I have as well as diverse mode selection.  I'll get a chance to play with it when I go get my daughter from work tonight.  It didn't have batteries so I couldn't play last night.  The bad thing is now I really want to learn more about Li-ion batteries and get into so lights that take them.

I have a PD32 and run mine on 18650. I now have several lights that can take 18650's. After the initial outlay for a charger and batteries, I now have cheap running for all my lights.

A popular charger is the Nitecore i4. I would spend a little extra and get quality batteries. I use Eagletac and AW cells.

Thank you very much  :salute: this is the exact direction I was headed as well.  The charger is one I have been very much interested in and the 18650's are a battery that I have also been curious to give a shot.  I now have to find other lights that will support the 18650 .  Here I go off into Li-ion lights and the dark dark road that follows

Not my absolute latest but I wanted to chime in about this Nitecore P12 I got a couple months ago. Unlike other lights I've owned, this one does not seem to have significant battery drainage. It's just as bright as the day I got it. I paid about $60 from batteryjunction and it has been worth every penny. I highly recommend this one :2tu:

With the exception of Surefire lights, most 2x CR123A lights can take an 18650 cell.

Then of course there are the lights that take multiple 18650 cells for a blistering output. I don't have one, nor do I need one at this moment.

My current 18650 capable lights are:

Eagletac G25 mk2, 980 lumens
Nitecore SRT6, 930 lumens
Fenix TK12, 450 lumens
Jetbeam IIIM, 450 lumens
Fenix PD32, 340 lumens
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.
