TRUE EDC items
on: January 02, 2012, 02:38:38 PM
It seems to me, that the term "EDC" has become a reference to something which has been placed in someones pocket for a couple of days and maybe seen a bit of use.  This to me is not 'every day carry'.  For me, in order for something to be classified as an EDC item, it has to be carried every day for a number of months.

I can only say the following things;

An Atwood GasBaby,
An Arc-P
A ResQMe
An Iphone 4
and my wallet.

Everything else is either swapped or changed around or is just simply not carried.

So I'm wanting to hear from you guys, what do you TRULY EDC?
I'm back!!

The other things: knives, multi tools, lighters, flashlights, etc is in a rotation right now, trying to find that perfect balance. I want to have a system that just works.

The only thing that really stays constant is the fresnel lens in my wallet, and the wallet itself, a Big Skinny Card Case.  Everything else is up for rotation at least once a year (or each day ::)).

Every day is different and the contents of my pockets change accordingly, but I do carry some form of knife/tool everyday. The things that change less frequently and are with me most days are my wallet, keys of some description (but even then the actual keys vary) and phone.

The car keys has a res-q-me, Vic manager and Photon II, the other keyrings have a classic and a fauxton - but I don't carry every bunch of keys everyday, so I suppoese I can't count them. My EDC bag (which is most days, but still not every single day without exception) has a Vic Swisstool as a "centre piece" with a lot of very other useful goodies

The more I think about it - I'm not sure anything for me is TRUE EDC .... and to be honest, I'm quite happy with that  :D

finking about it mine changes according to where i am, if its work i always have a sharpie pen and some sort of tool.

i change my tool according to the work load, so if i know its busy ill have something like a supertool 300, blast or wave. but if i know its quiet ill have a juice skeletool or maybe a freestyle.

and out of work i travel light but always have some sort of tool like my skeletool or freestyle. or even lighter with just a SAK tinker.

it all depends on the day for the tool. same goes for lights.

If I am going to step foot on the farm, (ie I'm at home), EDC ALWAYS is

1. Blue Vic Farmer
2. Fenix PD10 light
3. Leatherman Crunch
4. Leatherman bit kit
5. 1/4 bit changer (Ryobi brand)
6. Cell phone (Motorola Droid2Global)

And then either PocketTool X Pryranha or Atwood Roid Rench

I carry other tools pretty regularly (Charge ALX) but not always.

At work, It's changed recently, so I can't claim it now, but I used a modified Cybertool 41 for over a year without fail.

Every day, without fail, my pockets always carry:

> Alox Pioneer
> Fenix E01
> Peanut Lighter
> Nokia 6303 mobile
> Fossil wallet

Covers everything I need and totally unobtrusive when suspended in the pocket from carabiners.

Keep a Wave and 2AA LED flashlight in the van.

Cheers.

This is actually very interesting and quite deep!Knives and Multis change almost daily(knives more than the multis,my modded Fuse now covers all work related bases so well).Constants are my watch,Ashley made paracord braclet, and the chain around my neck that carries my rings and a Hammer of Thor,my ATm card, train ticket and cheap n nasty Nokia mobile
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

I believe this could be a really boring forum if we all went pure puritan and carried the same gear ALL of the time.  :D

I carry only two items that have been constant, true edc items, for a little over 4 years:
Vic Spirit
Jetbeam torch

I agree - variety is the spice of life

Just referring to the frequent comment of, "today my EDC carry is" and similar.  I'm keen to hear about those regular items.

I absolutely always have these items - or their variants - on me at all times:

Also have a Samsung Skyrocket.  Its a dang big smartphone, but its sweet.

Sometimes the SAK gets replaced by a ring of goodies like this:

Or sometimes its this:

But I always have a gun, phone, SAK or multitool, Sharpie, whistle and light.

my core EDC set, unchanged for about a year, is:

Victorinox alox classic SD (on keyring)

Victorinox escort (on keyring)

Fenix E01 (on keyring)

wallet with £15 kept separately to the rest of my money

... that's it.

Last few days I've been carrying an altoids (M&S) tin with a resuscitation mask, some plasters, a vic Farmer, black thread reel with needles, a mishmetal firesteel and some cotton wool to pad it out. I'd like to add it to my core EDC but unless I find it useful day-to-day I know it'll end up in a drawer. I'll post pics and further thoughts when it's a bit more developed.
