Mini farmer with scissors and corkscrew help
on: January 03, 2012, 10:37:38 PM
I finally completed my mini farmer mod complete with scissors and a corkscrew too; however I am not happy with the "snap" as the tools close.  If a tool opens fine, but lacks snap when closing, could this possibly be due to the rivets set too tight or a liner rubbing the tool?  I ask because every tool except the main blade and corkscrew do not snap like. I feel they should.

Does anyone have any pointers for this?

Thank you

Possibly bent pins. Happens to me a lot :(. Also could be to tight. To check the tightness grasp the tool and wiggle it side to side, if you have too much play you will be able to feel it. If it's too tight, try prying lightly from the side to see if it helps. If not, bent pins.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

Some good lube like a high end gun oil might help loosen them up. Everything I've peened had to be tight but loosened up with a drop of oil on each pivot. If it feels gritty then flush it out with some brake cleaner first.

If it were bent pins... short or rebuilding the thing, what would be the solution?  I will try some gun oil too as soon as I grab some.

Also check for a crack in the liner(scale?) at the end. I guess you are using alox scales?

I don't see a crack in either of the scales or any of the liners, but yes I am using alox scales.

I've been playing with it and now the snap issue seems intermittent, though the saw stays the same no matter what.  I am going to try oiling it, since the saw seems to grind when I open and close it.

Does anyone know of a fix if the pins are bent that does not require a rebuild?
