The Skinth+ (Skinny MT Sheath)
on: January 04, 2012, 05:53:10 AM
After making the Skinth http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,34149.0.html, I tried to make a Skinth+ to holder larger tools. I plan to make a SkinthXL to hold the MUT, mostly because there aren't many options for the MUT.

Anyway, here is The Skinth+, made from 600D nylon to hold a large sized Leatherman (or similar), a single bit card, a flashlight and a skinny knife (or whatever fits). This one was made to be worn horizontally but it's just as easy to make this into a vertical pouch.

The guts: A BO Leatherman Surge (modded into my BOrrage, ST300 head), a bit kit on top, a SRM 704 on the far side and a unknown black AAA flashlight,.

The Skinth[/b] and The Skinth+

I think for the next iteration I'll make the belt loops velcro for easy on and off. It'll make construction easier too.

See how thin they are...even the thick Surge looks slim :)

and a Family shot for 5hif7y who wanted to see my products in one line, The Skinth, Skinth+ and P3MT.

The + model is geared towards the larger full size Leatherman type tools (Surge, ST300...) but any size tool in that range would fesiable work for it :)

I think he meant your sewing setup. Mom has a $2000 Husquarvana that can't get through 3 layers of denim so I tend to think of the heavy stuff when I see 600 nylon and leather. I'm a kydex man myself but those are real nice.

holy crap, serves me right for skimming haah

I use a Kenmore 16765 Limited Edition machine. It's a commercially available higher end machine (but still within reach, retails for about $300-350). It's got a pretty strong motor, but its still a table top machine with a treadle foot. We don't have the space for a table built walking foot machine...one day.

The key is to use the right needles to pierce and get through the material, especially the 1000D as it multiplies pretty quick. You have to use at least a size 18 gauge need with a denim tip (it's designed more of piercing multiple layers).

The hardest part about making these complicated, featured ladened pouches is the order of operations! velcro here, box stitch there....

The OD green material is a much softer 600D so it's a dream to work with compared to the black 1000D stuff :)

Okay thanks, I wondered if you had some sort of industrial-type sewing machine :salute:
