Not so much for display, but storage... I was using a plastic fishing tackle box that was already buckling under the strain and it sucked.  I upgraded to this chako style starter set today and its working out great.  It's still portable so I can take it where I want, and the grip stuff holds all the tools firmly in place, they dont move at all.

Sheaths and msc in the top.  Saks in the first drawer.

Middle drawer has all my MT's.  I dont tend to keep ones I dont like, so this is all I have except one I EDC, which is my 2nd spirit x.  Note the little fingers belong to a Jr MTO member who also loves MTs... the my first sak is his when hes old enough.

Bottom is all my fixed blades, mostly moras, a Fallkniven A1 and an izula.

That's Exactly what I'm considering too:-

*Smart
*Organised
*Portable
*And most important LOCKABLE too.

Hoping to get mine soooon.

A great idea!! - I think you'll agree.

This is how I store them. When I want to look at them, I just pull our a drawer or two.

(Image removed from quote.)

I have a Craftsman Toolbox about the size of the one shown, except mine doesn't have near as many drawers, which means the drawers on mine are much higher, and more suited for storing boxes.  The drawers on mine start out thin on top, about the perfect size for storing and showing neatly placed MT's, and get progressively bigger as they go down.  I only have about 1 thin drawer on my toolbox.
I think I will go to Sears tomorrow and see if I can find one with all thinner drawers.  That way I will be able to store my knives and MT's ready for showing.
Thanks for the idea!
The wooden cabinets look awesome, but are way out of my budget, I fear.

My toolbox from Sears finally arrived.  The mats came the next day, so I put the mats in and so far I have 1 drawer filled with multitools, and 1 drawer filled with my Schrade knife collection.  Some of you guys have collections to die for, while mine is still in its infant stage, but I will keep adding on until I have something to be proud of.

Here's a pic of the multitool drawer:

And here are the Schrade knives:

I outgrew the starter toolbox I had on the right here, and picked up a bigger one from Sears today.

If I outgrow this one I'm going to stop acquiring tools and sell ones I dont use or like.  I have sold quite a few that didn't feel like keepers to me, so my collection is ones I truly like, not just whatever exists.  So maybe I'm not a TRUE collector in that sense.  A tool has to be high quality or somehow unique or interesting for me to want to keep it.

Here is the top.  Mostly msc stuff and folders, and a pile of sheaths that never get used.  I've never in my life carried a tool in a sheath and don't plan to, so they sit there.

This is my alox drawer.  Not a ton of it, but it will increase now that I can make more interesting alox mods I will make up a bunch and start collecting my own mods instead of just selling them all.

Regular plastic vics and wengers in this one.

My MTs.  The swiss are my favorite by far and I will acquire more of those Im sure of it.  SOGs are my 2nd favorite and there a few more of those I want as well.  Gerber made its way into my collection with the MP400.  I still dont consider it a tool on par with the others, but its interesting for what it is.  Thats the same reason I got the byrd wrench.  Low quality steel but completely interesting design.   And a somewhat random representation of leathermans.  They are what I like from the line up though.  The original PST is brand new just recently out of box.

Fixed blades in the bottom.  My fanciest one is the Fallkniven A1 and it's just beautiful to hold an use.  I do plan on getting most of the rest of the Fallkniven line at some point too.  :D  The 3 ray mears moras are investment knives to sell later, they go for way more than I paid and I have 2 users that is enough for me.

Cheers!

I have always wanted to get a glass display case for my multitools and SAKs.  I have been combing the local classifieds looking for an old store display, but have yet to find one that both looks good and is in my price range.  Usually it's one or the other.  :P

I found one at a local chain store, brand new for less than I could buy the materials and make one for, so I think I might grab a couple since they seem to be discontinued now.  Hopefully my local store still has a couple in stock.

Since finally having a display case is a real possibility for me, I figured I would get some small display stands, so I ordered these guys on eBay last week.  They arrived today, and so far I'm pretty pleased with them, although I have only fiddled with them a small amount.  As you can see, they fit a Challenge Coin very well!  :D

I posted this over on the Swiss forum. These are jewelers display trays with inserts. The inserts can be had in several different sizes and styles and the trays come in 1 inch up to 3 inch thickness. While the ones I have do not have covers these stack on top of each other and I use an empty insert and place it upside down on top of the open tray to cover it. There are large boxes that can be bought too with around 10-12 "drawers" places where you can slide in these trays. I have seen some that are single tray with acrylic display top/lid. The costs are not that bad either.

Grant, I`ve been looking for those little plastic display stands on the Bay but I kept getting the wrong thing when searching. What exactly are they called, please?

I like the possibilities that something like this offers: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/REVEAL-6-Shelf-Glass-Wall-Display-Unit-Oak-MC0500-/310371655651?pt=UK_Home_Garden_LivingRoomFurniture_EH&hash=item4843979fe3
