Greetings from the frozen north (Sweden)
on: January 09, 2012, 12:32:19 PM
Hi guys and gals!

I've been lurking this site for a few weeks now so I figured I ought to actually register and say hi as well.

Let's start with a short back-story. My girlfriend tends tends to call me obsessive when it comes to my interest and I'm sure she's got a valid point there. I tend to get intensely interested in something and basically spend all my waking time thinking about/researching the subject in question. This usually lasts a few weeks/months until something else snatches away attention and I'll basically drop the last thing. It tends to leave me with a lighter wallet but at least I end up knowing a lot more about whatever it is so it's not all bad.

It usually tend to be things I've had a previous interest in however and the current flavour of the month is Victorinox knives. I've  liked them since I was a kid and had some crummy knock-off pocket knife. I did get a Swisschamp for christmas many years ago though and loved it until it got stolen at a festival a few years back.

Since then (well it actually took me a while to buy a new one for some reason) I've made do with a Climber. Until my interested focused it's beam on the knives again that is.. After that I've been pouring over any bits of interesting info I've been able to find, for instance searching your Swiss forum day and night for interesting threads regarding different knives and making mental notes of reputable sellers (Felinevet, RotoKid and Central Valley Wholesale seems to have risen to the top).

I had no there even was a mod scene around the SAK's and such a simple thing as switching scales hadn't even occured to me. But.. Now I've already bought a few plus scales for my climber from RotoKid and picked up a pen, mini screwdriver and a pin for it. :D (Now if it'd only have the hook with the nailfile from the Compact..)

Couldn't stop myself from ordering a Compact and a Rambler either.. and an pink alox Classic for my girl friend (who's soo tired of hearing me rant aobut SAK's.. poor thing). I've basically been trying to find a small enough knife for urban EDC before getting something bigger. (I did pick up a Swisstool on a 70% sale after christmas as well..)

I do see a lot more spending in the future though.. poor wallet.. I've got my sights on a Cybertool 34, a OH Trekker/Forester and probably a new Swisschamp down the line.. :gimme:

Anyway, I just thought I'd say hi before going back to lurking the Swiss forum again.

Thanks for the welcome guys :)

And.. stop it with the temptations already.. :twak: :D

Tbh I'd rather have a Spirit than a regular Swisstool but considering it was discounted from around 1000 sek (about 144 usd) to 300 sek (43 usd) I figured it'd be a no brainer.

Can't really justify the cost of a Sprit now though, and I'm sure I'd never hear the end of it from my girlfriend.. :ahhh

Welcome!  If you like the size of a SwissChamp, the Cybertool 41 is essentially the same size with MORE TOOLS than the CT 34 :D

Cheers guys :)

And the CT 41, yeah, I have been considering that one as well..

It's too bad it seems to have been discontinued though. :( Sure it's still available here and there but it's not quite as common any more.

You're so not helping! :twak: :D

Still want a Champ as well.. but having both a CT41 and a Champ might be a tad redundant (and yes.. I do realize what kind of crowd I'm talking to here.. :rofl) so I might just "settle" for a champ.. (for now.. >:D)

But then again.. yeah, the CT41 might run out.. maybe I should get one before it's too late.. :ahhh

The spanish amazon is carrying the CT41 at 55 eur which is the lowest I've seen up to now.
Recently I've got the CT34 which for me is a better compromise than the 41 (and I do have the swisschamp).
But in doubt, buy all.

Welcome.

I like the way you think mate. Having a 34 close to my computer at home would be handy. Can't really see myself using the saw much there.. so I might just go your way and get both a 34 and a champ. The more the merrier eh?

Something I like with the Champ is that it sees more.. compact? More tightly cunstructed or something. The driver seems a tad bit flimsy, but maybe that's just me.

And again, thanks for the warm welcomes. :)

Cool :) What's it made of btw? It doesn't seem to be steel from some pictures I've seen where the finish had rubbed off.

Steel as far as I can tell ???  It appears to have casting marks at the base of it.  The bit holder is plastic.

I do not know what the driver is made of, the chrome plating has rubbed of mine as can be seen in the photo, with being taken in and out of the pocket were I carry it.

Maybe it just got discolored though?

You guys have made me want to order one from Amazon.es :P

I just love Sweden, it is the greatest country in my opinion. I try to be there every year, next time I will visit Stockholm in May. I even try to learn a little Svensk, but "talar inte bra". Well, I´ll have to practice  :D

jag skulle vilja ha en starköl, tack  :drink:
