New day bag
on: January 09, 2012, 07:05:10 PM
I was browsing the stuff in T.K Maxx and found this backpack:

except the one I picked up is in a nice dark brown. :)

I just got a 5.11 Rush 12 small pack at Christmas, but I have to say, I like the look of that pack. Do you mind me asking how much?

It was £29.95 from TK Maxx.  :)  They had a few others to pick from as well.

Nice bag!

When I was looking for a new bag to get for uni when I was in medical school, I seriously considered the wenger bags.

One I ended up going for in the end was the Karrimor Saber Delta 35, and although expensive, I have found it to be an excellent bag, spacious in that it is 35L but it is a really nice shape, and I needed a bag of that size to take stuff to and from uni.

Yeah, if you need to move around any folders then this one isn't for you, not nearly wide enough at the top I'd say.

Even better, when moving stuff over from my old bag, I found a £5 note and £2 in change that must have been sitting there for goodness knows how long. :tu:  So as far as I'm concerned it only cost me £23. ;)

Nice results indeed. Knowing my luck I would give the old bag to my wife who would find the money and give it to our kids, ask me how I know this would happen!!!

Looks nice!  Seems more of a burgundy color to me than brown though.

I used to be a total bag junky... I seemed to buy a new waist pack, back pack, whatever, every few months or so.  Ever since I discovered Timbuk2 messengers, I haven't changed bags in literally, years.  My laptop bag is 7 years old now, and my EDC bag is 3 now.  Love them both!

cheers mate.  The colour does have a little red in it, more of a chocolate or mocha rather than a pure brown I'd say. :)

Very nice Gareth! I just got myself a Wenger bag as well, and I love it. Even got myself am Evogrip S18 to go with it (like I needed a reason  ::) ). I'm very happy with both  :) .

That one is nearly identical (they had that in stock as well), the only significant difference that I recall being the shape of the front pocket. :tu:  Oh, and I've got my Wenger Evo17 in there myself. ;)

I have the same SwissGear City Pack that Jersey Devil mentioned and it does look very similar to yours.  I carry it every day.  It's part of my "if it's not Swiss, it's crap collection".   :D

I also have the requisite Vic Spirit, Vic Sentinel, Vic AA LED Flashlight, etc. in the pack.   :tool:

Interesting that they seem to be selling bags under both the 'Swiss Gear' and 'Wenger' brands.

They're both names used by Wenger Licensing.  The packs are made by Avenues in Leather in the U.S.  We have four packs in total (family of five  :o) and they've all been top notch.

That's pretty much what I was guessing.  What I really can't figure out is what the logic is in what name they use; different markets? different ages? different purposes? different quality?  Like I said, I saw the same bag as jerseydevil has but in a different colour and with the Wenger brand rather than the Swiss Gear.  Not that it matters at all, I'm just curious. :)

SwissGear seems to be the more common branding here in the U.S. for the packs.  This is purely a guess but I suspect the generic "Swiss Army" brand is more familiar to most Americans vs. Wenger or, to a lesser extent, Victorinox.   :tool:
