Multi-lite
on: May 09, 2014, 03:15:50 PM
Bought what looks like an original Multi-lite clam pack today. It was sitting there on the bottom shelf of the display case, looking all neglected. Did I make a big mistake?

Yes, horrible mistake.  I'll take it off your hands so you won't have to look at it and feel the shame. ;)  The Multi-lite is pretty cool IMO, neat concept that just didn't take off.  There's a few of us that have them here, and some including myself carry them on occasion.

+1 for the Multi-lite

Personally, I think there are good reasons why it never took off. Bad light, lots of unused room (primarily because all the tools are arranged on the same side). Still its pretty cool.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Definitely ....... send it on to me and I promise I won't tell anyone about what you did ..........  (oops, I see JD beat me to it )

Actually, you did good  :tu:

They are a bit hard to find these days, and collectors like them because they are a "different".

All came with the feeble amber LED, so don't think replacing the batteries will fix the dim light.

There are a few different coloured plastic top pieces (most are black/grey or green/grey), and 4 (I think) variations in tool load:

Normal blade

Saw

Corkscrew

Snowboard tools  ( the "Ride" version)

To be honest I mainly bought it cause I can't remember even seeing one up close before. Its not really worth pulling it apart for parts because it wasn't even that cheap. For some reason Gerbers are very collectable aren't they.

Definitely worth picking up IMO.  Not the most successful design I'd say, but it is an interesting piece.

I like the multi-lite.

it very well must have been my first real multitool. I was so young when I got it I don't remember. I don't know who even gave it to me. I'm assuming my dad for a birthday but I truly can't remember.

I've had a few I keep trading them off end up missing it so I get another.

I've had two different styles

one with a saw and one with serrated blade.

its a cool little box of a Tool that's so ugly its cute.

I'm sure I will own another one day.

congrats on the great find TheDude
