Will someone explain what is special about this Pioneer.

Is it the red shield?

Are the blade and tools not polished or have a special coating?

Thank you.

As far as I know it's a normal pioneer in black with a red shield

From Victorinoxs website

"Its casing in black anodized aluminum and the red/white cross&shield make a combination that has not been produced very often by Victorinox in the past. Victorinox has transformed this classic into a special collectors item for its fans, without taking away from its functionality. The Pioneer black is one of the many products that Victorinox is turning into something extraordinary."

Thank you.

It does look as though the blade is not polished.

Is the red shield noted on the label on the box ?

I just found one on ebay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Victorinox-Knife-93mm-Alox-PIONEER-Black-LTD-2014-Cuchillo-Messer-Couteau-/251613077470?pt=US_Knives_Tools&hash=item3a954edfde

Unfortunately it didn't answer my question whether the red cross is properly noted on the label.

The box doesn't specifically say red cross, but this knife does have a different part number (0.8201.23) to the silver pioneer (0.8201.26), which has been shown on the boxes of the ones I've bought.

Lovely looking knives BTW, much nicer than the silver.

I think I've heard the red shield version wasn't a U.S. release, but was in Europe.

It seems if you want the red shield model they need to be ordered from Europe, and the US has the black with white shield version.

The red shield looks better to me I think.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hard not to like that one, almost as hard as explaining someone the "need" of the one

This is pretty much correct in that it is a model not found in the US. You can get them from SwissBianco in Canada and off there Ebay site.

My favorite Alox scale color combination by a large amount. Will get one pretty soon after I get home and get some scissors thrown on it I think. Maybe just leave it as is who knows.
